Job description

About Maddox + You:

Your primary role is to support our sales team by quickly drafting professional drawings to complete the order approval process. Each drawing details the transformer's basic dimensions, properties, and features that were ordered - ensuring we deliver the right transformer and an outstanding customer experience. Using our homegrown tools and CAD library, this process is easy. Data entry is largely automated allowing you to focus on high-level configurations or custom modifications. Additionally, once you have a working knowledge of transformers, you will be a critical part of the review process, catching and preventing costly mistakes.

Beyond drafting, you will support production by designing various parts to repair, modify, or augment the transformers we remanufacture. This includes custom enclosures, interconnects, and sheet metal panels that we outsource to be laser-cut, bent, and welded.

You are an engaged member of the Maddox team that your coworkers rely upon and enjoy working with. You are driven and independent, with a keen understanding of what needs to be done and the initiative to develop the necessary skills to achieve your goals. You are eager to learn and help others. You take ownership of our workflow and improve upon it-making it easy, safe, and productive.

Maddox is expanding quickly, both in size and scope. A competent engineer, who understands our business, will have many opportunities to lead exciting projects and grow within Maddox.

More about You:

  • You are comfortable with prolonged computer work and occasional hands-on tasks.
  • You are focused, with excellent attention to detail.
  • You are a quick learner; not a know-it-all.
  • You prioritize various types of work well and communicate clearly and promptly via phone, email, and chat.
  • You work well in a team or independently.
  • You have a strong technical background. You enjoy working with all manner of technology and are comfortable working with both hardware and software.

About Maddox's Engineering:

In an industry where lead time is often quoted in years, Maddox has earned a reputation for speed and wins because of it. Customers are assured that we can quickly deliver the right transformer when they receive a detailed drawing and quote shortly after giving us a call. At Maddox, engineering is integral to this process, always ready to provide guidance and support. We design, tackle challenging projects, source specialty components, and communicate with and produce drawings for customers, technicians, and fabricators. To minimize waste, we build our own tools to simplify and automate work whenever possible. These tools power our daily workflow and are essential in emergencies. When a hospital, factory, or city is crippled by a critical transformer failure, we respond swiftly.

Maddox maintains a give-the-best/expect-the-best attitude. Our team is equipped with high-end laptops (mainly Apple), docks, and multiple external monitors. We employ cloud-based solutions that enable our team to work from anywhere. We design using Onshape, a refreshing cloud-native platform comparable to Solidworks.

Comprehensive Full-Time Benefits, including:

  • 3 Weeks Paid Time Off (PTO) (and an additional week for managers, and an additional week after 5 years).
  • Health & Wellness: Can be taken as traditional insurance, or as cash in lieu of benefits. Benefit amounts vary based on age, family status, and eligibility, but as an example, in most circumstances, an employee with a spouse and 3 kids, would be eligible for $19,200 / year or more.
  • Paid paternity/maternity leave
  • 401k with 100% match up to 8% of wages.
  • Paid holidays, marriage and family gifts to celebrate significant life events, and other reimbursements and voluntary benefits and coverages (such as Vision, Dental, Short Term Disability, Additional Life Insurance, Accident, etc), as eligible.

Experience & Education:

We are seeking a candidate with exceptional aptitude, attitude, and ambition. Must have CAD experience, be proficient with spreadsheets, and have a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.

Valued, but not required:

  • Degree in engineering
  • Programming: scripting, software, embedded systems, or web development.
  • Designed and built something of note (software, electronics, or a machine)
  • Metal fabrication: CNC cutting, press brakes, or welding

Basics:

  • Full-time. Schedule is flexible but generally 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM local.
  •  Smoke-free, drug-free workplace.
  • Travel: Short-duration travel to different Maddox facilities around the United States may be required, primarily for training and networking.
