TUTORING CENTER STUDENT ETUTOR (POOL)
Student Worker
The position of Tutoring Center Student eTutor is a pooled position and applications will be reviewed on an as needed, on-going basis.
Are you someone who is organized and innovative? A self-starter who is motivated, positive, and has a strong desire to help others? If yes, then this is the position for you!
As a Student Worker in the position of Tutoring Center Student eTutor, you will be responsible for tutoring UCC enrolled students online in partnership with the Western eTutoring Consortium. This new online platform allows students to request help in specific academic subjects online accessible through Canvas and live tutoring sessions on Zoom or through Writing Lab submissions. The eTutors assist in building up student skills to encourage successful lifelong learning.

QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
  • Live eTutors must have:
    1. Empathy and understanding of the difficulties faced by a diverse group of learners.
    2. The ability to communicate effectively in their subject(s).
    3. Evidence of positive, constructive tutoring interactions with students.
    4. A desire to improve tutoring skills by taking advantage of additional training sessions and constructive feedback.
    5. The ability to craft tactful, constructive responses to students regardless of the student's skill or education level.
    6. A willingness to use all capabilities of Zoom, including the whiteboard, chat box, file share, and audio. Use of audio is required for all live eTutors.
    7. Experience with word processing programs and any other apps or websites that may be of use in the subject(s) they tutor.
  • Math tutors must have:
    1. Proficiency in using a calculator to solve mathematical problems and the ability to give directions on how to manipulate at least one commonly used graphics calculator
    2. Proficiency in at least one area of mathematics offered by eTutoring (Beginning Algebra is a minimum requirement).
  • Writing Tutors must have:
    1. Experience tutoring writing, a wide range of writers, writing assignments, styles, and stages of the writing process.
    2. Follow eTutoring's protocols and practices, including constructing responses according to eTutoring's requirements.
    3. Respect for and knowledge of a diverse range of writers and their processes.
    4. Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural and/or language norms that may play a part in the writer's work, especially with regard to multilingual writers.
    5. Sufficient flexibility in their school and work schedules to accommodate an extra 2.5 hours of eTutoring in December and March for Super Writing Tutor Weeks.
    6. Comfort and familiarity with the rules and grammar governing the English language.
    7. Experience with word processing programs and reliable access to programs capable of both opening and saving in .doc, .docx, and .rtf formats.
Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications:
  • Writing Tutors should have:
    1. The ability to compose and type at a fairly rapid rate.
    2. Sufficient knowledge of the writing process to empathize with and be sensitive to other writers.
    3. Writing is characterized by a friendly, personal tone.
