Job description

A teacher aide assists the teacher in the classroom under the directives of the classroom teacher or principal. An aide is to assist the teacher during the day with either individual students or small groups of students, prepare materials/supplies as needed by the classroom teacher, assist in the evacuation of children during all drills or lockdowns, assist the teacher in the arrival, dismissal and transition of students during the day and assist with playground/lunch supervision.
Requirements
Essential Job Functions:
  • Support the Teacher in providing developmentally appropriate early childhood education experiences across various subjects, including religion, art, music, literacy, science, and mathematics.
  • Assist in supervising activities that promote the health, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child, aligning with Diocesan goals and objectives.
  • Maintain a neat, safe, and organized classroom environment and assist in the upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Practicing Catholic preferred with knowledge of Catholic prayers, holidays, and teachings.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively with the teacher.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students and staff.
  • Commitment to self-evaluation and professional growth.
  • Professionalism in attire, communication, and demeanor.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree or experience in childcare/education preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Demonstrated patience, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with school staff.
  • Must pass a background check and meet all state and diocesan requirements for working with children.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to lift to 25 lbs.
  • Requires outdoor supervision in various weather conditions.
  • Works well in a team setting with one more teacher
