Online Program Coordinator-Teaching & Learning Specialist

About the Opportunity

The mission of American Baptist College (ABC), a historically Black College with a liberal arts emphasis, is to educate, graduate, and prepare diverse students for Christian leadership, service, and social justice the world. To accomplish these aims we will teach our students to grow ethically and spiritually by expanding their vision to include the principles of social justice, equity, advocacy, and leadership in order to build their analytical and interpretative skills in both faith communities and the broader society.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Dean of Academics, this role coordinates and improves ABC's online courses and programs. The Online Program Coordinator-Teaching & Learning Specialist collaborates with faculty, the Registrar, and IT to support the effective design, delivery, and assessment of accessible and engaging online education. Key duties include instructional design, faculty development, program coordination, and ensuring alignment with institutional/program/course learning outcomes while following best practices.

Areas of responsibilities:

Faculty Support & Instructional Design

  • Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and revise online courses and programs using best practices in instructional design and pedagogy.
  • Provide workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one consultations on online teaching strategies and digital tools.
  • Guide faculty in aligning Institutional/Program/Course learning outcomes, Program and Course assessments, and ABHE accreditation requirements.

Program Coordination & Operations

  • Serve as the lead coordinator for the College's online programs, ensuring smooth scheduling, communication, and faculty onboarding.
  • Collaborate with Dean of Academics, Registrar and IT Director to manage and schedule course offerings, instructional assignments, and enrollment.
  • Coordinate with Dean of Academics to collect and analyze Program and Course assessment data.
  • Work closely with IT to support implementation, training, and troubleshooting the Canvas LMS.

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead efforts to assess and improve online course quality using frameworks like Quality Matters.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards and universal design for learning (UDL).
  • Develop and maintain resources, templates, and documentation to support faculty and program development.
  • Stay current with trends in digital pedagogy, accessibility, and emerging tools.

Required Qualifications.

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in online teaching, instructional design, and coordinating academic programs.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and digital learning tools.
  • Demonstrated understanding of online pedagogy, adult learning theory, and course development frameworks.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Certification in Quality Matters or similar course quality assurance programs preferred.
