What is an online rater?

Online Raters are individuals who evaluate the quality and relevance of online content, such as search engine results, advertisements, or social media posts. They use specific guidelines provided by companies to judge whether content meets user needs and adheres to certain standards. This role helps improve algorithms by providing human feedback, ensuring users receive more accurate and helpful information. Online Raters usually work remotely and have flexible hours, making it a popular job for those seeking work-from-home opportunities.

What does an online rater do?

As an online rater, your job is to search for terms and ads on the internet and rate them based on factors like how compelling they are and whether or not they are relevant to a search. In this role, you may evaluate websites, check ad performance on different search engines, look at the text, images, and other content in search results, and otherwise provide remote help and support for the company. Online raters may also perform other types of quality analysis for companies, such as evaluating internal assessments and screenings to determine whether or not those reports accurately represent the observed performance on a search engine. Employers often list this job under names like ads quality evaluator or quality analyst.

What skills do you need to be an online rater?

To thrive as an Online Rater, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in understanding and interpreting online content, typically supported by at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with web browsers, search engines, and proprietary rating platforms is often required, and some companies may require passing qualification exams. Excellent time management, reliability, and the ability to follow detailed guidelines make candidates stand out in this remote, independent role. These skills ensure accurate, consistent evaluations that improve search engine performance and user experience.

What are some common challenges faced by online raters, and how can they be effectively managed?

Online Raters often encounter challenges such as interpreting subjective guidelines, handling repetitive tasks, and maintaining focus during long periods of independent work. To manage these challenges, it’s helpful to regularly review provided instructions, take scheduled breaks to avoid fatigue, and actively seek clarification when guidelines seem ambiguous. Developing a routine and connecting with fellow raters through company forums can also provide support and improve accuracy.

The OSC plays a key role in our sales process by responding quickly to new inquiries, building relationships with prospective buyers, understanding their needs, and moving qualified prospects toward an appointment with our New Home Sales Consultants.

This position is ideal for someone who is highly responsive, personable, organized, comfortable communicating by phone, text, and email, and motivated by turning leads into opportunities.

  • Schedule appointments for qualified prospects with New Home Sales Consultants
  • Maintain consistent follow-up with prospects who are not yet ready to purchase
  • Re-engage older leads and prospects who have become inactive
  • Develop relationships with prospects through timely, helpful, and personalized communication
  • Support lead conversion initiatives designed to increase appointments and sales opportunities

  • Ensure leads are properly categorized, prioritized, and assigned
  • Manage follow-up tasks and maintain an organized pipeline of active prospects
  • Monitor lead activity and identify prospects requiring additional follow-up
  • Maintain accurate records to support sales reporting and forecasting

Sales Team Coordination

  • Provide Sales Consultants with relevant information about the prospect prior to appointments
  • Follow up on appointment outcomes and continue nurturing prospects when appropriate
  • Communicate trends, recurring questions, and customer feedback to the sales and marketing teams
  • Partner with Marketing to provide feedback on lead quality and lead sources
  • Maintain a strong understanding of YBG communities, available homes, floor plans, pricing, incentives, and the overall homebuying process

Customer Experience

  • Create a positive first impression of Yingst Building Group
  • Provide prospective buyers with accurate and helpful information while creating interest in the next step
  • Communicate professionally and consistently throughout the lead-nurturing process
  • Build trust with prospective buyers without creating a high-pressure sales experience
  • Represent the Company and its communities with professionalism and enthusiasm

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position will be measured through key sales and lead-management metrics, including:

  • Speed of response to new leads
  • Percentage of leads successfully contacted
  • Lead-to-appointment conversion rate
  • Appointment show rate
  • Appointment-to-sale conversion
  • Consistency and quality of lead follow-up
  • CRM accuracy and completion of required activities
  • Re-engagement and conversion of older leads
  • Quality of handoff to New Home Sales Consultants
  • Overall contribution to Company sales goals

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in inside sales, online sales, customer service, lead management, real estate, new home sales, or a related customer-facing role preferred
  • Strong phone, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport and build relationships with prospective buyers
  • Comfortable initiating conversations and asking questions to understand customer needs
  • Strong follow-up skills with the persistence to stay engaged with prospects over time
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage a large number of leads and follow-up activities
  • Comfortable working with CRM systems, email, text messaging, and other digital communication tools
  • Ability to learn and communicate information about communities, homes, pricing, financing, and the homebuying process
  • Goal-oriented and motivated by measurable results
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the Sales and Marketing teams
  • New home sales or residential construction experience is helpful but not required

At Yingst Building Group, how we work matters. We look for team members who share our core values:

  • Helpful – Provide prospective buyers with useful information and make it easy for them to take the next step
  • Humble – Listen, accept feedback, collaborate with the sales team, and continually improve
  • Aware – Understand each customer's needs and recognize when and how to move a prospect forward
  • Driven – Take ownership of leads, follow through consistently, and pursue opportunities with urgency

Position Details

  • Full-time position
  • Hybrid with regular phone, email, text, and CRM communication
  • Schedule may include some evening or weekend availability based on customer inquiries and business needs
  • Compensation structure and incentive eligibility will be communicated as part of the hiring process

If you're energized by connecting with people, enjoy turning conversations into opportunities, and understand that great follow-up can make the difference between losing a lead and gaining a customer, we'd like to hear from you.
