Summary
System Engineer II is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuous innovation within the infrastructure.
This role is also responsible for a broad range of tasks, including the implementation, configuration and day-to-day administration and support of our virtualized environment, including hardware and software supported with Microsoft and VMware technologies.
The System Engineer II will design, implement and/or manage Active Directory, Azure AD, Citrix Workspace, IIS, Office 365, VMware, IIS, Telecom and automation tools. Additional responsibilities include system monitoring, performance tuning, security hardening, disaster recovery planning, and troubleshooting complex issues across enterprise environments.
Major Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and support enterprise IT infrastructure, including Windows Server, VMware, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Maintain and support Active Directory, including GPO creation, DNS, DHCP, and hybrid identity management with Azure AD and SSSD for Linux integration.
  • Deploy, configure, and manage Citrix Workspace and Citrix Netscaler.
  • Design, harden, manage Office 365 services, including Azure AD, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and other O365 services.
  • Administer IIS web servers, including configuration, security hardening, load balancing, and troubleshooting.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring solutions, establishing baseline metrics for system health and uptime (PRTG preferred).
  • Implement and monitor security measures for system hardening patch management, vulnerability remediation, and compliance enforcement.
  • Design and maintain disaster recovery and failover strategies, ensuring business continuity through backup, replication, and high-availability solutions.
  • Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell (required) and Python.
  • Develop and manage server orchestration and configuration automation with tools such as Chef, Puppet, or Ansible.
  • Support Microsoft SQL Server environments, including backup/recovery, failover, and performance tuning.
  • Provide basic Linux administration, including patching, security, and AD integration via SSSD.
  • Document maintenance processes, system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and best practices for internal knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including security, networking, and development, to ensure system reliability and performance.
Education/Learning Experience
Required: Associate’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Desired: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
Work Experience
  • Required: 5+ years of IT experience in a mid-to-large enterprise environment
  • Desired: Experience in pharmaceutical and healthcare IT
Skills/Knowledge
  • Required: Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Azure AD (hybrid identity management), Group Policy Objects (GPO), and user authentication. Advance experience managing Windows Server (2008-2022), Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu), VMware. Experience managing IIS web servers, including security hardening, load balancing, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in PowerShell scripting, automation tools, and IT process optimization. Strong background in security hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Desired: Familiarity with CPR+, IPS, or other pharmacy-related systems. Familiarity with Cloud computer platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud). Experience implementing and maintaining security best practices for endpoint management. Understanding of HIPAA compliance and disaster recovery planning. Database and scripting experience.
Licenses/Certifications
Required: MCSE, MCSA, or equivalent
Desired: VMware VCP, Citrix CCA/CCEA, Azure Administrator Associate, CCNA, or security-related certifications (GSEC, CISSP).
