What We Look For In a Portuguese Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of Portuguese grammar including verb conjugation, noun gender, articles, pronouns, prepositions, and vocabulary for everyday and academic contexts, along with differences between Brazilian and European Portuguese. Ability to explain subjunctive mood, personal infinitive, and pronunciation variations while preparing students for proficiency in either Brazilian or European Portuguese variants.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching Portuguese pronunciation, grammar application, and conversational fluency development. Guides students through present and past tense conjugation, object pronoun placement, reading comprehension of Portuguese texts, and distinguishing regional vocabulary and pronunciation. Emphasizes communication practice and connects Portuguese to the cultures of Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, and other Lusophone countries.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with Portuguese language curricula and common challenges such as nasal vowel pronunciation, subjunctive mood usage, and navigating Brazilian versus European Portuguese differences. Adapts instruction using authentic media from Portuguese-speaking countries, grammar exercises, and conversation practice to support beginners through advanced learners seeking proficiency for academic, professional, or personal goals.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
