Job Description

NBC Connecticut is looking for a versatile and highly motivatedย editor toย create content for the multiple platforms we program. This person willย be responsibleย forย editing video content produced for digital and linear newscasts,ย working closely with broadcast reporters andย producersย and for using all social,ย multimediaย and digital tools to grow our audience.โ€ฏย 

Newsroom environments change quickly, and the successful candidate should be able to re-focus and prioritize their work based onย needsย of the shows and breaking stories. This candidate needs to be up to date on current events, both local and national, whileย demonstratingย and working with the utmost integrity.โ€ฏThe role combines keen attention to detail, sound editorial judgement, a desire to create compellingย contentย and offer fresh ideas for multi-platform distribution. Candidates should be comfortable working in a team setting but also working soloย under pressureย at times.ย โ€ฏย 

Responsibilities:ย 

  • Edit content for linear newscastsย and prepare video content and stories for newscasts, as well as editย digitalย videosย for allย platforms, including but not limited to, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTokย for multi-platform distribution.ย ย 
  • Partner closely with the EP to ensure alignment across all platforms.ย 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of editing techniques and trendsย forย individual social platformsย 
  • Identifyย and executeย prioritiesย for deliverablesย during aย fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.ย 
  • Participate in planning and execution ofย long-form editing, including specialย projectsย for both linear andย socialย assigned.ย 
  • Communicate with show producers, management, assignmentย deskย and reporters on delivering the best videoย 
  • Coordinate editing duties with photographers and other editorsย 
  • Work with other journalists on enterprising stories and train other editors on editing techniquesย 
  • Understand and practice ethical journalism and meet NBC news standardsย 
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of digital post-production experience; editing in Adobe Premiere Proโ€ฏย 
  • 1+ yearย working in a newsroom environmentย ย 
  • Experience with digital workflows, file-based deliveryโ€ฏย 
  • Experience with frame rates, aspect ratios, and resolutionsโ€ฏย 

Desired Characteristics:โ€ฏย 

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related fieldโ€ฏโ€ฏย 
  • Demonstrated news editorial judgment and/or ability to contribute to story building processโ€ฏย 
  • Strong, professional written and verbal communication skillsโ€ฏย 
  • Proven experience editing content for a variety of platformsโ€ฏย 
  • Familiarity with newsroom shorthandโ€ฏย 
  • Collaborative spiritโ€ฏย 
  • Experience working with and editing in Dalet Galaxyโ€ฏย 
  • Understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud suite withย a proficiencyย in After Effects; familiarity and comfortable working with Photoshopโ€ฏย 
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with editing software and equipmentโ€ฏย 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs includingย Excel,ย Wordโ€ฏย 
  • Knowledge of editing techniques and trends on individual social platformsย ย
