What is an online nursing instructor?

Online Nursing Instructors are qualified nursing professionals who teach nursing courses in a virtual or remote setting. They develop and deliver curriculum, facilitate discussions, assess student performance, and provide guidance, all through online platforms. These instructors may teach courses ranging from foundational nursing concepts to specialized clinical topics, often using digital resources, video lectures, and interactive assignments. They play a crucial role in preparing students for nursing licensure and ongoing professional development. Being an online instructor requires strong communication skills, technical proficiency, and a passion for education.

What does an online nursing instructor do?

Online nursing instructors teach students who are pursuing a career in nursing. Unlike traditional nursing instructors who teach in a classroom, online nursing instructors work with students through internet courses. But the responsibilities of traditional and online nursing instructors are very similar. As an online nursing instructor, you give lectures, administer exams, grade assignments, and perform all other duties an educator might have. These courses are often live, and students have the opportunity for students to ask questions directly to you. Once you have several years of experience, you may pursue positions to teach aspiring nursing educators. Most online nursing programs require their online nursing faculty to be available to students through email, phone, and meeting face-to-face when possible.

What is the difference between Online Nursing Instructor vs Online Nursing Tutor?

AspectOnline Nursing InstructorOnline Nursing Tutor

Online Nursing Instructors typically develop and deliver comprehensive nursing courses within educational institutions, requiring teaching credentials and formal curriculum planning. In contrast, Online Nursing Tutors focus on one-on-one or small group support, often with less emphasis on formal teaching certifications. Both roles utilize online platforms but serve different educational needs within the nursing industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online nursing instructor?

To thrive as an Online Nursing Instructor, you need a solid background in nursing education, current nursing licensure, and experience in both clinical practice and teaching. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) like Canvas or Blackboard, and relevant certifications in online instruction are typically required. Strong communication, organization, and the ability to engage and motivate students remotely are crucial soft skills. These abilities ensure effective online instruction, foster student success, and uphold high educational standards in a virtual environment.

How do online nursing instructors typically balance teaching responsibilities with student engagement in a virtual environment?

Online Nursing Instructors often balance their teaching duties by carefully organizing course materials, utilizing interactive platforms, and setting clear communication channels for students. They frequently use discussion boards, virtual office hours, and timely feedback to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment. Collaborating with other faculty and instructional designers is also common to ensure course content remains up-to-date and meets accreditation standards. This role requires adaptability and strong time management skills to successfully engage students while handling grading, curriculum updates, and administrative tasks.

Job description

Case Manager / RN Delegator

Full-Time or Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN)

Making People the Center of Their Healthcare Journey.

At Journey Nursing Services, we believe healthcare is about people first. Our mission is to provide exceptional, person-centered care through a holistic approach that supports not only our clients, but their families, caregivers, and the entire healthcare team.

As a Nurse-Owned, Veteran-Owned, and Women-Owned organization, we are committed to raising the standard of community-based healthcare while investing in the professional growth of our employees. We believe every patient deserves exceptional care from qualified nursing professionals, and every employee deserves to work in an environment where they are respected, supported, and empowered.

We believe in a Culture of Respect

Our culture is built on a few simple principles:

  • Every voice matters.
  • Every person deserves respect.
  • We lead with compassion and integrity.
  • We work together as one team.
  • We pursue excellence in everything we do.

As Journey Nursing Services continues to expand throughout Washington State, we are looking for compassionate, motivated Registered Nurses to join our growing clinical team.

Whether you're looking for a full-time or part-time opportunity, we'd love to meet you.

Why Choose Journey?

Unlike many home care agencies, Journey Nursing Services offers nurses the opportunity to practice across multiple service lines—including Private Duty Nursing, Case Management, RN Delegation, and skilled nursing oversight—creating a dynamic and professionally rewarding career.

Our nurses maintain hands-on clinical skills while building meaningful, long-term relationships with patients, caregivers, providers, and community partners. Rather than performing the same duties every day, you'll experience a diverse role that combines clinical leadership, patient advocacy, direct bedside care, education, and care coordination.

At Journey, your career grows as we grow. We are committed to promoting from within and creating leadership opportunities for nurses who are passionate about excellence, innovation, and compassionate care.

Compensation & Benefits

Journey Nursing Services believes in investing in our employees by offering a competitive compensation package and benefits that support your health, financial well-being, and professional growth.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive hourly pay
  • Potential for productivity-based bonuses
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Sick Leave
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Flexible Full-Time and Part-Time scheduling
  • Paid orientation and training
  • Free Continuing Education (CEUs) and online learning
  • Professional development and leadership opportunities
  • Supportive, collaborative, nurse-led work environment

Position Overview

Journey Nursing Services provides Private Duty Nursing, Home Caregiving, and RN Delegation throughout Snohomish, King, Whatcom, and surrounding counties.

This position provides case management for Private Duty Nursing clients, including completing comprehensive nursing assessments in patients' homes, developing and updating individualized Plans of Care, coordinating care with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, and providing ongoing clinical oversight.

In addition, this role provides RN Delegation services, skilled nursing oversight, and direct patient care across a variety of community-based settings, including:

  • Private Homes

  • Assisted Living Communities

This role offers a unique combination of clinical leadership, case management, nurse delegation, and hands-on nursing care, allowing nurses to build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients while practicing at the top of their license in a diverse and rewarding community-based setting.

Schedule & Work Environment

This position offers a dynamic and flexible schedule that combines direct patient care, clinical case management, and administrative responsibilities.

A typical work week consists of a combination of:

  • Scheduled Private Duty Nursing shifts
  • RN Delegation visits, including initial assessments, renewals, and supervisory visits
  • Case management responsibilities for Private Duty Nursing clients
  • Administrative time for documentation, care planning, provider communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration

  • Participate in quality improvement, compliance, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and clinical excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
