The Department of Mathematics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Probability or Mathematical Statistics. The appointment will begin on August 16, 2026.
The department is seeking applicants with research and teaching expertise in the areas of Probability or Mathematical Statistics. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in either theory or applications of probability and statistics, particularly those who can support the department's expanding role in university-wide initiatives in data science, AI, and related areas. These initiatives involve faculty from multiple colleges at the University of Alabama, in addition to those housed in the Barefield College of Arts & Sciences. Applicants are expected to have postdoctoral experience and show solid evidence of research productivity beyond the doctoral dissertation.
The University of Alabama is a student-centered R1 research university. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong research program, pursue external funding, and demonstrate the potential to secure such funding from multiple agencies. The candidate should also be committed to providing stellar education to undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the candidate should be committed to supervising undergraduate research and graduate dissertations. Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in mathematics or statistics by August 16, 2026.
