Job Description:

POSITION: Mathematics Tutor

LOCATION: Clarkesville and Blairsville Campuses

DESCRIPTION: The tutor is responsible for tutoring and proctoring exams for student learners or a small group of learners at North Georgia Technical College. Some major duties are tutoring students at NGTC in math, finding and preparing appropriate teaching materials that suit the student(s) ability, goals, and interests, if necessary, and proctoring student exams and maintains integrity with testing procedures. The tutor will meet with students on an established basis in a learning center or classroom site that is convenient to both the tutor and student(s), meeting virtually if needed. They should discuss student progress with appropriate staff, listen carefully to students and offer encouragement and support, and maintain a positive, warm attitude that encourages students to learn. If needed, the tutor may be expected to assist faculty members in the classroom and facilitate exam accommodations for students during proctored exams. Additionally, the tutor will perform basic administrative duties to support the daily operations of the tutoring program, proctoring services, and General Education department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Technical College student with an overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the subject area to be tutored *or* outside applicant that demonstrates the ability and experience in the subject field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or upper-level coursework in Mathematics or related field
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills
