Organization's Summary Statement:
The mission of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Maryland is to conduct world-class, cutting-edge research in the chemical sciences while delivering the highest quality of education to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral associates. Our research and education programs span the traditional chemistry areas of analytical, inorganic, organic, physical chemistry and biochemistry, and include visionary programs in chemical biology, materials chemistry, theoretical chemistry, and nanotechnology. We pride ourselves on a research and education environment that is highly interactive, diverse, and collegial, and offers students and researchers with the state-of-the-art instrumentation and the training environment needed for them to advance the discipline and become professional leaders.
Position Overview:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for two full-time Lecturers in our Chemistry and Biochemistry Programs for the 2026/2027 academic year. The Programs are responsible for the chemical and biochemical education of students in chemistry, biochemistry, biological sciences and engineering and have annual enrollments of more than 7000 students. Successful candidates must be outstanding teachers who have a strong commitment to undergraduate science education. Duties for one position include teaching undergraduate gener/bioanalytical laboratory courses and chemistry lecture courses. Duties for the second position include teaching physical chemistry laboratory courses and chemistry lecture courses.Duties for both positions also include advising undergraduate students, summer school instruction, K-12 outreach, and other instructional duties as required. Participation in course development and other efforts aimed toward improving undergraduate education and broadening participation of student from diverse backgrounds is also expected
These are term appointments for non-tenured professional track faculty members. The start date is Fall 2026.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related discipline, and experience in teaching at the college/university level.
