Job description

Role: Java Tech Lead. Location: Rocklin, CA / San Francisco, CA. Duration: Long Term. Consultants must be willing and able to attend an in-person interview in Rocklin, CA. VISA Independent consultants only.

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to drive the architecture, delivery, and operational excellence of enterprise-scale platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands‑on Java expertise, experience building scalable distributed systems, and a proven background in the Retail domain. This role requires a technical leader who can guide engineering teams, establish best practices, and ensure the successful delivery of highly scalable and reliable business‑critical applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own platform roadmap, architecture, and delivery across enterprise applications.
  • Lead design and development of scalable Java-based distributed systems.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards for reliability, scalability, observability, and change management.
  • Collaborate with Product, Business, SRE, Operations, and cross‑functional teams to prioritize and execute initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural guidance to engineering teams.
  • Drive high‑quality software delivery through best practices in development, testing, deployment, and release management.
  • Ensure system readiness and operational excellence for high‑volume production environments.
  • Support engineering transformation and platform modernization initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • Strong hands‑on expertise in Java and modern backend application development.
  • Strong experience with Microservices Architecture and REST APIs.
  • Experience with event‑driven and distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of observability, production support, and operational excellence.
  • Retail domain experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
