Title: LEARN Lab Supplemental Instructor
Department: Math Department

Pay Rate:
Tutor I: Less than 1 year of experience, $16.00 per hour
Tutor II: 1-3 years of experience, $17 per hour
Tutor III: 3+ years of experience, $18 per hour
Work Hours: up to 20 hours per week
Position Summary: The purpose of this job is to provide individual and small group mathematics supplemental instruction to students, and to assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to help students clarify their mathematical learning and develop the study skills to be successful in their mathematics courses.
Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions to students seeking assistance with various math courses offered at the community college.
โ€ข Explain complex mathematical concepts in a clear and understandable manner, using different teaching methods and approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles.
โ€ข Promote the use of learning strategies to help teach students how to learn.
โ€ข Ask guiding questions to encourage student thinking as students work on their homework assignments and exam preparation.
โ€ข Conduct review sessions to reinforce understanding and retention of material.
โ€ข Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment that promotes learner autonomy, confidence and academic growth.
โ€ข Collaborate with faculty members and academic advisors to stay informed about course curriculum, assignments, and student learning objectives.
โ€ข Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities provided by the college to enhance tutoring skills and effectiveness.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Successful completion of at least one of the following courses (MATH 1010, MATH 1050, MATH 1530, MATH 1130, MATH 1710,) or higher, with a minimum grade of a "B." A GPA of at least 3.0 is preferred for this position
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of mathematics
A positive, supportive and motivating attitude
Interpersonal skills, particularly patience, tact and courtesy
Ability to coach students to improve their mathematical reasoning skills
Experience with online homework platforms such as MyOpenMath, MyMathLab, ALEKS, and commonly used calculators
Effective oral and written communication
