POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE: Substitute/Adjunct Instructor - Practical Nursing
POTENTIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS: Classroom and/or Clinical Instruction; Anatomy & Physiology (A&P); and/or Math for Meds (Dosage Calculations)
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time Faculty - Non-Exempt - Hourly
DIRECT SUPERVISION RECEIVED FROM: Practical Nursing Coordinator
TEACHING LOCATIONS: TCAT Shelbyville campuses located in Shelbyville and Winchester, Tennessee. Teaching assignments, locations, and schedules will vary based on departmental needs.
SALARY: $30.00-$35.00 per hour, based on education, experience, assignment, and institutional guidelines.
FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
TCAT Shelbyville is accepting applications to establish a pool of qualified substitute and part-time instructors for the Practical Nursing program. Instructional opportunities may include classroom instruction, clinical supervision, Anatomy & Physiology (A&P), and Math for Meds (Dosage Calculations). Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may vary in duration, location, and schedule.
Substitute and part-time instructors are responsible for providing high-quality instruction, supervising students in classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical settings as assigned, evaluating student performance, maintaining required records and documentation, and supporting the delivery and success of the Practical Nursing program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide instruction and supervision in assigned classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical settings.
  • Deliver course content using lesson plans, instructional materials, and curriculum provided by the Practical Nursing program.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback to promote student success.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, grades, and other required documentation.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and inclusive learning environment for traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and clinical agency personnel, as applicable.
  • Maintain compliance with college, Tennessee Board of Nursing, and clinical agency policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and model appropriate workplace behaviors.
  • Coordinate student disciplinary concerns with the Vice President of Academics and Compliance.
  • Maintain accountability for assigned equipment, instructional materials, and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Classroom/Clinical Instructor Applicants
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Associate of Science degree required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Tennessee.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical nursing experience, including experience in Maternal, Pediatric, Mental Health/Psychiatric, and/or Adult Health Nursing.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Previous teaching or clinical instruction experience preferred.

Anatomy & Physiology or Math for Medications Applicants
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Associate of Science degree required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent nursing or related healthcare experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the subject area being taught.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office, email, and other instructional technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the public.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, solve problems, and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
