Job description

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Performs skilled technical work managing the strategic planning, development, publication and updating of ACCG resource publications that support county government officials and staff. Summarizes complex information from subject-matter experts and produces practical, easy-to-use resources for members. As primary writer, editor, and project manager, works in close collaboration with subject matter experts, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure publications are accurate, engaging, and aligned with the Association's mission. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Deputy Director.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Publications Management
  • Carries primary responsibility for the development, production, drafting and editing of ACCG and affiliated entities' handbooks, guidebooks, and reference publications.
    • Creates and maintains annual publication schedules and production timelines. Utilizes digital publication formats, including PDFs, online libraries, and web-based resources.
    • Creates and coordinates design, layout, and digital publication processes in consultation with staff and other stakeholders.
    • Creates AI-ready content that powers member chatbots and searchable knowledge bases.
  • Carries primary responsibility for publication revisions and updates that reflect legislative, legal, and other policy changes.
  • Administers and continuously manage publication archives and document version control; builds and maintains organizational knowledge library.
  • Keeps abreast of publication trends and makes recommendations on hoe to better serve our members.

Editorial Direction
  • Direct the full process of development of association resource publications, including primary responsibility for, coordinating with content providers, writing, editing, and proofreading ACCG and affiliated entities' publications; ensuring consistency in writing style, branding, formatting, and editorial standards. Adheres to and maintains ACCG style guide for publications.
  • Through continuous management of relationships, leads the editing of original and updated publications contributed by staff, partner organizations, stakeholders, and subject matter experts Collaborates with legal, consulting, leadership development, policy, communications and subject matter experts to verify content accuracy.

Project Management
  • Prioritizes, makes recommendations that supports the accomplishment of executive level organization strategic goals, and manages multiple publication projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Partners with internal and external contributors and subject matter experts in the composition, review, and publication of written materials, member resources and online publications.
  • Develops and controls project budgets; monitors publication expenditures for outside editors, freelance authors, and specialized graphics, design, or layout work as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related discipline.
  • Moderate (typically five or more years) of experience in publications, editing, technical writing, and project management. Ideally in a public administration, political science, legal, or related work environment.
  • Knowledge of Georgia local government operations, policy, or law.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of publication production processes.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills; familiarity with AP/Chicago Style and professional editorial standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; able to provide editorial guidance and commentary with clear, respectful communications.
  • Attention to detail, commitment to accuracy, and sensitivity to target audience.
  • Advanced level and proven project management and organizational abilities; ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate complex governmental information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Proficiency with:
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and related Adobe products
  • Graphic design and production tools such as Canva
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) in professional settings towards the accomplishment of document review, workflow, indexing, analyzation, and management of AI assisted publications operations.

Special Requirements
Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia.
