Summary: The Network Engineer supports a variety of operational systems which provide data transport, routing, switching, monitoring, and control center management. An ideal candidate will demonstrate the skills needed to design, deploy, document and support data networks. The target environment is a Juniper based IP MPLS Transport network, and a Cisco based IP network. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Use a System Engineering Process to design, plan, test, and implement network and networked systems, including routers, switches, encryption equipment and firewall security devices in new and existing networksPlan, oversee and participate in equipment and system installations. Resolve issues and discrepancies. Work with Quality Assurance, Configuration Management, and safety to meet documented standards and requirementsDevelop system and site documentation/configuration (includes information assurance controls, drawings, design documents and network management)Participate as a project team member in planning and implementation meetings, identify tasks, material, tools, equipment and effort/skills required to accomplish the objectiveApply a broad and in-depth knowledge of network technologies to design, develop, test and deploy solutions that meet system requirementsProvision computer system applications through collaboration with application developers and vendors. Work with vendors and support services to resolve application and equipment failures or performance problemsProvide analysis, root cause diagnosis and resolutions for network issuesPlan, conduct and document tests. Perform diagnostics displaying a mastery of test equipment and test procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records data, measures and records problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level; and analyzes data and prepares test reportsPerforms other related duties as requiredQualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information technology or computer engineering. A combination of formal education, certifications, and experience will be evaluated against job duties. JCNIP or JCNIS service provider switching and routing certification with experience configuring Juniper routers, switches and firewalls. JCNIS security and CCNA/CCNP certifications are also desirable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position: Demonstrated mastery of IP networking, protocols (including MPLS, OSPF, PIM, RSVP, IGMP and others) and control center design principlesEffective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to create network and system documentation (drawings, network management tools, design documents). Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful mannerExcellent project management skills with ability to prioritize and work in high-paced work environment. Experience installing and configuring servers, timing and synchronization devices, video encoding/decoding and fiber and copper interconnectKnowledge of Information Assurance Controls and encryption conceptsAdvance computer skills and knowledge of scripting languages a plus. This includes Java, Microsoft Server Platforms: client/server software and hardware environments, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 configuration desiredMust be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security ClearanceWork Environment, Physical and Mental Demands: Normal duty location is an office environment. Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors. Responsibilities require travel to local and remote sites, some of which can involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions for extended periods; work on uneven surfaces and varying types of outdoor terrain. Must be willing to perform occasional shift work and overnight assignments at remote locations.
