As an online cosmetology instructor, your job is to teach classes over the internet and instruct students learning to become cosmetologists. In this virtual role, you typically follow a course curriculum, cover topics like how to use various makeup and beauty products, explain the daily tasks of working in a salon, and otherwise help students prepare for working as cosmetologists. You may provide video recordings to students or strictly work to syncronize live discussions. Many online cosmetology instructors work from an office or classroom environment and may have additional support staff to adjust cameras and help improve lessons.

What does an online cosmetology instructor do?

An Online Cosmetology Instructor teaches students the fundamentals and advanced techniques of cosmetology through virtual platforms. They design and deliver course materials, demonstrate cosmetology skills via video, provide feedback on student assignments, and prepare students for state licensing exams. Their role also involves staying updated with industry trends to ensure students receive current training. Instructors may specialize in areas such as hair, skin, nails, or makeup, and often use interactive tools to engage students remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online cosmetology instructor?

To thrive as an Online Cosmetology Instructor, you need a solid background in cosmetology, relevant licensure or certification, and prior teaching or industry experience. How does an online cosmetology instructor typically structure lessons and engage students in a virtual environment?

Online Cosmetology Instructors often use a mix of live video demonstrations, interactive discussions, and pre-recorded tutorials to teach both theoretical concepts and practical skills. They frequently utilize learning management systems to share resources, assign homework, and assess student progress. To promote engagement, instructors may incorporate virtual breakout rooms for group activities, live Q&A sessions, and digital portfolios for students to showcase their work. Collaboration with other instructors and industry professionals is also common, providing students with a well-rounded and current educational experience.

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
