JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB CLASSIFICATION TITLE:

Adult Education Spanish GED Instructor

Adult Education Administrator / Principal

FLSA DESIGNATION:

Non-Exempt. Part-Time,. Tuesday and Thursdayย  6:00pm-9:00pmย  at $38 per hour. Starting September, 2026ย 

Note: This is a Grant-funded Position through Adult Education, Non-union positionย 

PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION

This non-bargaining position is accountable for implementing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment within the Waterbury Adult Education evening program.ย The Spanish GED Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to adult learners preparing for the GED examination in Spanish. The instructor will teach and support students in all four GED subject areas: English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The instructor will create engaging lessons that promote academic growth, critical thinking, workplace readiness, and successful completion of the GED credential.

PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESย 

  1. EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

Connecticut Adult Education certification (107).

  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English.ย 

  • Strong knowledge of GED subject areas including:ย 

    • English Language Arts (ELA)ย 

    • Mathematics ย 

    • Science ย 

    • Social Studiesย 

C. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current CT Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.

PART III - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide classroom instruction in Spanish for GED preparation courses in:ย

  • Develop lesson plans aligned with GED standards and adult learning principles.ย 

  • Assess student academic levels and monitor student progress regularly.ย 

  • Prepare students for successful completion of the GED examination.ย 

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the educational needs of diverse adult learners.ย 

  • Integrate technology, digital literacy, and workforce readiness skills into instruction.ย 

  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and student performance records.ย 

  • Create a positive, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.ย 

  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and support staff to improve student success.ย 

  • Utilize instructional software and online learning platforms as required by the program.ย 

  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings.ย 

  • Encourage student persistence, retention, and transition to college or career pathways.ย 

PART V - Working Conditions, Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical Requirements: ย Employees appointed to positions in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the position.
