Job description

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald's Utilities team is growing! If you are committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you.

Based in Edmonton and surrounding areas, the Utility Gas Fuser reports to the Foreperson or their designate. The Utility Gas Fuser performs fusions on gas pipe and provides a full installation cycle of gas facilities, such as, but not limited to, the following: install and complete all main line connections, including fittings, installing all service punch tees, competing tracer wire connections, and pressure testing completed main. In addition, the Utility Gas Fuser is responsible for submitting test documentation and ensuring proper documentation for as-builts. The Utility Gas Fuser will provide support to crews installing gas mains, tracer wires, and placing them online.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Measure and stake the gas line in the proper locations

Ensure that all tees are installed and tested, & tracer wire installed and staked correctly

Ensure that all deviations from line assignment, changes in fitting location, or requirements are documented for as-built records

Complete all required pressure testing of ATCO and / or Apex Utilities facilities and submit all approved test documentation at the end of the project; communicate with ATCO and / or Apex Utilities inspectors on-site

Load, unload, and move construction materials around the worksite, ensuring the worksite is organized and free of clutter, rubble, and garbage

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred

ATCO Gas and or Apex Utilities Fusion certification is preferred. A certified Atco and / or Apex Utilities fuser up to 8" for both pipe and tee is a requirement

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 1-2 years of Gas Fusing experience, is required

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to complete live gas tie-ins safely and professionally as per ATCO and / or Apex Utilities requirements

Show an understanding and familiarization of all ATCO and / or Apex Utilities required work procedures

Demonstrate understanding and the ability to interpret ATCO and / or Apex Utilities gas prints

Experience with outdoor construction labor and heavy equipment operations is considered an asset

Physical ability to repetitively lift and carry at least 40 lbs. regularly

Demonstrate professionalism

Detail-oriented approach to tasks

Effective verbal communication and customer service skills

A sense of urgency to meet deadlines

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Class 5 Driver's License; clean Driver's Abstract, required

Construction Safety Certifications including the following are considered assets:

Confined Space Awareness/Rescue
Fall Arrest
WHMIS
First Aid
Ground Disturbance Certification
