Job Description
Identifies patients at nutritional risk and refers them to clinical dietitian; assists in the provision of nutrition care to patients and families in conjunction with the clinical nutrition team, staff and physicians.
Performs Clinical Nutrition Lab duties as required.
Experience
  • No minimum experience required

Education
  • Associate degree or higher, or 2 years of experience in acute clinical hospital unit required

Certification Summary
  • Serv-Safe® certification required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Job Responsibilities
  • Screens patients for nutrition risk using the hospital-approved electronic medical record within 24 hours using established risk criteria. Refers nutrition risk patients to clinical nutritionist per policy. Re-screens patients according to policy.
  • Performs basic clinical functions including calorie counts, nutrient analysis, and formula order verification and recipe entry.
  • Conducts calorie counts and nutrient analysis per policy.
  • Enters calorie count and nutrient analysis data into hospital approved electronic medical record
  • Enters and verifies formula order recipe into hospital approved electronic medical record.
  • Must pass Nutrition Calculations Competency test within 60 days of hire with >80% accuracy
  • Follows inventory and stock procedures for human milk, nutritional formulas, and supplies according to policy.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new clinical nutritionists, nutrition technicians, and formula technicians related to the nutrition technician position responsibilities.
  • Participates in on-going process improvement activities of the department.
  • Assists Formula Technician including coverage for the Formula Technician position and responsibilities as required.
  • Assists Nutrition Technician II with human milk receiving and delivery as required.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.
