Position Summary
Assist in curating the U.S. Forest Service's forest health insect collection and insect pest collections at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Collaborate with the U.S. Forest Service on the collection of insect specimens in the field. Work alongside the Museum of Southwestern Biology's Division of Arthropods (MSBA) throughout the collection process. Pin, prepare, and identify all collected specimens according to MSBA protocols. Enter specimen data into the Ecdysis database following established MSBA collection standards.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in insect collection, pinning, and specimen preparation
  • Knowledge of Darwin Core standards and biological databasing software
  • Experience working in entomology collections
  • Proficiency with taxonomic keys and insect identification
