Job description

The Lead Operator oversees the operation and upkeep of pipelines, compressors, auxiliary equipment, pumps, dehydration systems, and other related machinery. Additionally, they support management in coordinating maintenance, construction projects, and field personnel activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that projects and timelines are achieved by collaborating closely with operations, engineering, construction, facility planning, and gas control teams.
  • Aids in the development and maintenance of project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Responsible for ordering necessary parts and supplies to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Supervises team of  pipeline operators.
  • Maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities.
  • Trains new operators.
  • Plans and organizes pigging operations.
  • Conducts general diagnostics.
  • Aids other assets as needed.
  • Facilitates inspections by agencies such as DOT, TCEQ, and OSHA.
  • Manages on-call rotation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of and compliance with company policies, industry standards, and construction practices.
  • Capable of interpreting pipeline construction drawings and alignment sheets.
  • Proficient in all operations related to pipelines and compressor stations.
  • Skilled in scheduling software.
  • Strong understanding of pipeline operations and maintenance .
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities beyond the primary role.
  • Exhibits leadership qualities.
  • Proficient in using SCADA systems.
  • Familiar with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
  • Self-reliant and capable of working independently.
  • Takes initiative in general maintenance tasks.
  • Committed to working safely and efficiently.
  • Possesses clear, concise, and thorough communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Adheres to all company and safety policies.
  • Strong organizational abilities for managing tasks, schedules, and information.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in the natural gas and liquid pipeline industry, with experience in pipeline maintenance, regulatory compliance (DOT PHMSA, TRRC), and integrity management
  • 2+ years of experience working with inspections, installation, and repairs of pipelines
  • 2+ years of operations experience working on regulated pipeline

  • Technical certifications

This position may require occasional travel to remote sites, potential exposure to flammable material, adherence to safety protocols, compliance with operating regulations, and will require rigorous physical demands.
