Job description

Epic Billing Analyst

Our client is seeking an Epic Billing Analyst to support the configuration, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of Epic Resolute Professional Billing (PB) and/or Hospital Billing (HB) modules. This role plays a critical part in revenue cycle performance by ensuring accurate charge capture, claims processing, reimbursement workflows, and regulatory compliance.

The Epic Billing Analyst partners with IT, revenue cycle, and finance stakeholders to translate business requirements into system solutions that improve billing accuracy, operational efficiency, and financial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Configuration and Optimization
    • Configure and maintain Epic Resolute Professional Billing (PB) and/or Hospital Billing (HB) modules
    • Manage charge router rules, workqueue configuration, benefit engine functionality, claims processing workflows, statement processing, and payment integrations
    • Build, test, validate, and migrate system changes using established change control procedures
    • Monitor system performance and recommend enhancements to improve billing accuracy and efficiency
  • Workflow Analysis and Process Improvement
    • Analyze revenue cycle workflows, data collection processes, and reporting structures
    • Identify inefficiencies and implement system-based solutions to optimize billing operations
    • Ensure alignment between system configuration and operational best practices
    • Support compliance with regulatory standards including ICD-10 and other healthcare billing requirements
  • Support and Troubleshooting
    • Serve as primary support contact for Epic billing end users
    • Troubleshoot application issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
    • Provide technical assistance to billing staff, finance teams, and other stakeholders
    • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule supporting a 24/7 production environment
  • Implementation and Upgrades
    • Lead or support implementation of new Epic billing features or modules
    • Participate in system upgrades, enhancements, and regulatory transitions
    • Review release notes and assess operational impact of Epic updates
    • Ensure proper testing and validation prior to production deployment
  • Testing, Documentation, and Reporting
    • Develop and execute test scripts for new builds and system enhancements
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations and workflow designs
    • Develop and generate operational and financial reports using Epic reporting tools
    • Support leadership decision-making with accurate data analysis and reporting
  • Training and Collaboration
    • Partner with training teams to develop materials for new features and workflow changes
    • Conduct or support end-user training sessions as needed
    • Act as liaison between IT, billing operations, finance, and external vendors
    • Lead meetings, manage issue logs, and prioritize tasks within project timelines

Required Qualifications

Education• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or related field required• Associate's degree with equivalent relevant experience may be considered

Experience• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience supporting healthcare information systems, preferably in hospital or professional billing environments• Hands-on experience with Epic or comparable healthcare billing systems required

Certification• Epic certification in Resolute Hospital Billing (HB) or Professional Billing (PB) highly preferred• Ability to obtain Epic certification within a defined timeframe if not currently certified

Technical Expertise• Deep knowledge of Epic Resolute billing modules including charge router, workqueue configuration, collection workflows, statement processing, and claims operations• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint)• Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools

Industry Knowledge• Strong understanding of revenue cycle processes and reimbursement methodologies• Familiarity with professional versus hospital billing workflows• Knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA• Understanding of ICD-10 and related coding and claims standards
