On Call Epic Conversion Rn information

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges faced by an On Call Epic Conversion RN during a healthcare system transition?

As an On Call Epic Conversion RN, your main responsibility is to support the seamless transition of patient data and workflows from legacy systems to the Epic electronic health record (EHR) platform. This involves validating patient records, assisting staff with Epic navigation, troubleshooting issues, and providing real-time support during go-live and post-go-live periods. Common challenges include adapting quickly to new workflows, handling high-pressure situations, and collaborating with clinical and IT teams to resolve unexpected issues. Flexibility is essential, as shifts may occur outside regular business hours to ensure continuous support during the conversion process.

What are On Call Epic Conversion RNs?

On Call Epic Conversion RNs are registered nurses who assist healthcare organizations as they transition to the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. They provide support during the conversion process, including data entry, chart abstraction, staff training, and troubleshooting. These nurses are typically available on an as-needed basis during the go-live period to ensure clinical workflows run smoothly and patient care is not disrupted. Their expertise in both clinical practice and the Epic system helps bridge the gap between technology and patient care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an On Call Epic Conversion RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as an On Call Epic Conversion RN, you need strong clinical nursing knowledge, familiarity with healthcare workflows, and active RN licensure. Details
  • Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit (3rd floor) within an acute care, Level II Trauma hospital setting
  • 48-bed unit spread across two buildings
  • Patient population includes post-surgical cases such as laminectomies, cervical fusions, joint replacements (total hips/knees), ostomies, hernia repairs, fem pop bypass, BKA/AKA, as well as patients requiring TPN/lipids, PICC lines, PCA pumps, epidurals, dialysis, sepsis management, and chronic pain/narcotic management
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-6 on days and 1:5-6 on nights; LPNs, virtual admission/discharge nurses, and CNAs are available to support the team

  • Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift on the hired shift and unit; the first day may run 12–14 hours to complete competencies, computer-based modules, and general orientation
  • 4 hours of billable computer modules must be completed by 7:00 AM on the Friday prior to start; modules are available Monday–Tuesday of the week prior to start
