Job description

Job Summary

Vista Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Sitter to provide close observation of patients in order to ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment. The Patient Sitter works closely with the nursing team to promote patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction while upholding our standards of excellence.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain continuous visual observation of assigned patients; never leave a patient unattended unless directed by a nurse.

  • Receive verbal reports from caregivers regarding patient needs, conditions, and special precautions.

  • Follow nurse instructions for patient mobility and redirection strategies.

  • Accompany patients for tests or procedures when required; remain within arm's length unless otherwise directed.

  • Observe patient behavior and promptly communicate changes or concerns to the nursing staff.

  • Support patient comfort and maintain a safe, orderly environment.

  • Respond to unit needs and emergencies as directed, including assisting as a runner or in patient transport.

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with patients, families, and staff.

  • Accurately document observations and notify the RN of any significant behavioral or clinical changes.

  • Comply with hospital policies, privacy standards, and infection control measures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required

  • Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred, but not required

  • Skills:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Basic computer literacy

    • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations

    • Commitment to teamwork and patient-centered care

  • Certification/Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required


Working Conditions
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).

  • May be exposed to infectious diseases and require use of protective equipment.

  • Must be able to see with corrective eyewear and hear clearly (with assistance if needed).

  • Occasional irregular hours, on-call, and call-in support required.

  • Travel to other Vista Health sites may be required.
