Job description

Senior IBM API Connect (APIC)/Datapower Developer Location: Torrance, CA 6 Plus Months Contract
Job Responsibilities:
As a Senior DataPower and APIC Developer, this person will perform the following tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and support enterprise API and integration solutions utilizing IBM API Connect (APIC) and IBM DataPower.
  • Develop and configure Multi-Protocol Gateway (MPGW) services for enterprise integrations.
  • Configure and support Web Service Proxy (WSP), XML Firewall, and MPGW services.
  • Design and implement B2B integrations with external trading partners using IBM DataPower.
  • Configure and manage SSL/TLS security which includes SSL Proxy Profiles, Crypto Profiles, Crypto Certificates etc.
  • Configure error handling, logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting on IBM DataPower appliances.
  • Lead application development, enhancement, and production support activities for multiple large-scale business initiatives.
  • Research, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents involving APIs, middleware, cloud integrations, and backend applications.
  • Perform impact analysis across multiple platforms, systems, and integration points to support project delivery and change management.
  • Design and implement API security solutions, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, Mutual TLS (mTLS), LDAP integration, and certificate management.
  • Develop and maintain API products, catalogs, developer portals, rate limiting policies, and governance standards.
  • Design integration solutions between cloud-hosted and on-premises applications using APIC and DataPower.
  • Collaborate with architecture, security, infrastructure, cloud, and application development teams on solution design and implementation.
  • Participate in CI/CD automation, deployment planning, release management, and environment promotion activities.
  • Monitor API platform health, analyze performance metrics, and implement optimization opportunities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term corrective actions for recurring production issues.
  • Support OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) deployments and containerized integration workloads.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, design specifications, and operational procedures.
  • Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership and best practices guidance.
  • Participate in on-call production support during off-hours, weekends, and critical business events.

What Will The Person Be Working On:

  • Designs, develops, tests, and deploys enterprise-grade API and integration solutions using IBM API Connect and DataPower.
  • Creates, publishes, secures, and manages REST and SOAP APIs within APIC environments.
  • Develops GatewayScript, XSLT, XPath, and transformation services to support complex integration requirements.
  • Designs scalable integration architectures supporting cloud, hybrid-cloud, and on-premises applications.
  • Implements API security, authentication, authorization, encryption, and governance policies.
  • Deploys and supports APIC and DataPower solutions within OpenShift and containerized environments.
  • Integrates enterprise applications, including Salesforce, Loan Origination Systems, Servicing Systems, Payment Gateways, Fraud Platforms, and third-party vendor solutions.
  • Builds reusable integration components and establishes API development standards and best practices.
  • Collaborates with Business Analysts, Architects, Product Owners, Security Teams, and Infrastructure Teams to deliver technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Conducts code reviews, design reviews, and technical solution reviews to maintain platform standards and quality.
  • Troubleshoots production issues related to APIs, middleware, networking, cloud connectivity, and application integrations.
  • Supports automated deployment pipelines and DevSecOps initiatives using GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab, or similar technologies.
  • Implements monitoring, logging, analytics, and observability solutions to improve platform reliability and operational visibility.
  • Provides technical mentoring and knowledge transfer to development and support teams.
  • Follows established SDLC, Agile, change control, configuration management, and release management processes.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of overall software development and integration experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting IBM API Connect (APIC) and IBM DataPower solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Experience within Banking, Financial Services, Consumer Lending, Automotive Finance, or related regulated industries preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong experience with IBM API Connect (APIC) and IBM DataPower Gateway platforms.
  • Extensive experience with REST, JSON, SOAP, XML, WSDL, XSD, XPath, XSLT, GatewayScript, EDI, and related integration technologies.
  • Strong understanding of API lifecycle management, API governance, and API security best practices.
  • Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, Mutual TLS (mTLS), LDAP Integration, and certificate-based authentication.
  • Experience creating APIs, products, plans, catalogs, and developer portals in IBM APIC.
  • Experience configuring DataPower services, security objects, crypto profiles, and transformation policies.
  • Experience integrating Salesforce, Loan Origination Systems, Servicing Systems, Payment Gateways, Fraud Platforms, and external partners.
  • Experience designing and deploying integration solutions in AWS cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of AWS services including VPC, NLB, S3, security controls, networking, and hybrid-cloud architectures.
  • Experience enabling secure communication between cloud-hosted and on-premises applications.
  • Experience with OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), Kubernetes concepts, ingress/egress policies, secrets, routes, and container deployments.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines utilizing GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar automation tools.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, ELK, Grafana, or Prometheus.
  • Experience performing production support, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance tuning activities.
  • Experience with IBM MQ integration and messaging patterns.
  • Working knowledge of event-driven architectures, Kafka, or IBM Event Streams is preferred.
  • Experience with AWS S3 integration and cloud-native application architectures.
  • Experience building APIC analytics dashboards and reporting solutions.
