The Beekeeper is responsible for the care, health, and management of the resort's honey bee colonies while supporting Miraval's commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and experiential wellness. This position maintains healthy hives, harvests honey for resort culinary and spa initiatives, and partners with resort colleagues to provide engaging, educational beekeeping experiences for guests.

The ideal candidate combines technical beekeeping expertise with a passion for hospitality, conservation, and guest engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain healthy honey bee colonies through regular hive inspections and seasonal care.
  • Monitor colony health, queen performance, brood development, honey stores, and overall hive productivity.
  • Identify, prevent, and manage common pests and diseases using industry best practices.
  • Harvest, extract, and process honey while maintaining high standards of quality and food safety.
  • Maintain beekeeping equipment, hive components, and apiary areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Support sustainable pollinator habitats throughout the resort grounds in partnership with landscaping and sustainability teams.
  • Lead or assist with educational apiary tours, demonstrations, and wellness programming designed to connect guests with nature.
  • Collaborate with Culinary and Spa teams to incorporate honey and other hive products into guest experiences whenever appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of hive inspections, treatments, production, and seasonal activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, local regulations, and resort operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing honey bee colonies in a commercial, educational, or advanced hobbyist setting.

  • Knowledge of bee biology, seasonal colony management, and integrated pest management practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for sustainability, environmental stewardship, and guest service.

Preferred

  • Experience presenting educational programs or conducting guided tours.
  • Previous experience in hospitality, agritourism, botanical gardens, or educational settings.
  • Familiarity with sustainable agriculture or regenerative landscape practices.

Work Environment

This position is primarily outdoors and requires regular exposure to weather conditions, bees, pollen, uneven terrain, and beekeeping equipment. Flexible scheduling, including occasional weekends and holidays, may be required to meet seasonal apiary needs and guest programming.
