Ovintiv's program is a comprehensive summer internship designed to provide a solid foundation of knowledge and experiential training while giving students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in school in a real-world setting. As an intern you will spend the summer working closely with an experienced mentor and be assigned a project and various other responsibilities intended to provide you with learning opportunities while delivering meaningful contributions to Ovintiv.

Previous interns have studied optimization of bits, bottom hole assembly, and mud systems on drilling rigs. Interns have worked to improve completion design efficiency by optimizing pump schedules, improving frac design utilizing diagnostics, and improving plug drill outs on coil tubing and workover rig units. Additionally, they have supported oil and gas development by studying the communication between wells during completions activity, performing rate transient analysis, and evaluating concepts to improve the overall economics of our business. As an engineering intern you will likely be placed in one of the following roles:

  • Reservoir & Development: providing technical and economic analysis to help establish a development strategy for our resource plays to include well planning, spacing, recovery, etc.
  • Drilling: designing drilling programs and implementing optimal procedures to safely and economically drill wells that access valuable underground resources.
  • Completions: overseeing the design and execution of completions operations including frac and plug mill out. Will gain exposure to well planning, casing design, stimulation design, quality assurance, and post-job evaluation.
  • Operations & Production: evaluating well performance and developing new techniques and approaches to enhance production rates and reduce operating costs.
  • Infrastructure, Water & Facilities: designing and maintaining gathering and processing facilities including pipelines, compressor stations and gas processing and treating facilities to ensure that gas flows from the wellhead to the sale point.
  • Data analytics: interpret raw data through the use of statistics and multi-variate techniques to better inform teams when making business decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors (Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum).
  • Strong academic standing preferred.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student through December 2027.
  • Must be available May 17 - August 5, 2027.
  • Must be able to work in The United States without sponsorship.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Ovintiv's reasonable estimate of the hiring compensation range for this role.

Hiring Hourly Range: $35.00- $50.48 USD

Compensation may vary and will be determined by year in school.
