About MC&I
Mission Critical & Industrials (MC&I) is a growing consulting and engineering arm of NEI focused on the design and delivery of complex electrical infrastructure for demanding environments, including data centers, oil & gas operations and large-scale commercial and industrial facilities. MC&I supports high-impact infrastructure projects for clients, some of whom rank in the top ten of their respective industry segments across North America. Engineers remain engaged across the full project lifecycle, from early concept and planning through detailed design and execution support. About the Position
As a Senior Physical Engineer in the Oil & Gas group, you will be responsible for performing engineering design and analysis of substation projects for various clients within Canada and the US in the industrial space under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer. You will support mutual success with both the clients and NEI by providing quality deliverables that are on time and within the defined budget.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000 / year
The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.
Essential Responsibilities
What you will do:
  • 50% QA / QC work: Implement the NEI Quality Assurance Plan. Check the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy.
  • 20% Training: Train junior level engineers and designers in areas of physical design of electrical substations & BESS facilities.
  • 20% Writing: Write technical go-bys and training documents. Assist with the creation and enforcement of technical standards across the department.
  • Phase Manager (PPM): Your primary responsibility will be technical leadership, short-term focus on project scope, budget, and execution, and ensuring technical quality. Consult regularly with the Team Lead on key decisions and activities.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Directors, Project and Program Managers, and Team Leads on projects within the department - MC&I.
  • Perform the review of detailed physical engineering for all aspects of electric power substations including multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Typical design products might include general arrangements, elevation views, site layout, bill of materials, equipment specifications, bus sizing for ampacity and structural requirements, grounding plan and details, and conduit plan and details. Some other civil focused scopes may be integrated - such as site plans, grading plan, stormwater modeling, erosion control design, hydrology analysis, development of SWPPPs, BMP's, site permitting, and stormwater reports.
  • Review submittals for conformance with (owner, client) specifications and design to meet all required codes.
  • Prepare hand and computer-based calculations and models for physical designs.
  • Prepare a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, and proposals for complex projects.
  • Manage deliverables and deadlines to ensure they are submitted on time for both internal QA/QC deadlines and external deadlines to client.
  • Ensure that client requirements, specifications, and expectations are being met.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Team Members.
  • Perform occasional field inspection and construction supervision services when needed.
  • Check the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy.
  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work.
  • Complete safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines.
Must Have
  • Education: Bachelor's in Civil or Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • Licensure: P. E. is Preferred
  • Skills: Proficiency with AutoCAD, MathCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. Effective written and oral communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting and some field work is also required
  • Travel: Typical: 15 - 25%
  • Physical Activities: Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Managerial Responsibilities: Team Member should identify discrepancies in assigned work and bring to attention of supervisor or engineer responsible for the project in a timely manner. Team Member's work product should be self-checked in a manner that is suitable for review by the supervisor or engineer responsible for the project.
