Field Service Technician II

Pay:

The hourly rate for this position is betweenย $27.00 - $35.00 per hour.Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Position Overviewย 

The Field Service Technician II performs intermediate-level installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of power transformers and high voltage substation equipment. This role supports field operations by performing hands-on tasks including transformer assembly, oil processing support, gasket and bushing work,ย componentย inspections, and basic electrical and mechanical testing under limited supervision.ย 

Responsibilities
  • Follow company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements;ย participateย in all safety meetings and training.ย 
  • Perform intermediate level field work including LOTO, grounding, arc-flash protocols, and site preparation.ย 
  • Assistย with transformer electrical testing by supporting diagnostics, data collection, and proper test setup.ย 
  • Operate dry air equipment and support moisture control processes during transformer assembly.ย 
  • Measure, cut, and install gaskets and sealing components.ย 
  • Assistย with transformer internal work such as inspections, fastener adjustments, andย componentย support.ย 
  • Support vacuum setup and operation during transformer processing activities.ย 
  • Oversee rig operations during overnight or extended shifts, ensuring safe and compliant performance.ย 
  • Assistย with installation and commissioning of monitoring devices such as Calisto or other condition-monitoring systems.
Qualifications

Required:ย 

  • Two or more years of experience in transformer services, substation work, or electrical/mechanical field maintenanceย 
  • High school diploma or GEDย 
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving recordย 
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs.ย 
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor, high voltage, and industrial environmentsย 
  • Willing and able to travelย frequentlyย (up to ~80%), including overnight stays and variable schedulesย 
  • Willingness to complete job-related background checks and medical evaluationsย 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow written and verbal instructionsย 

Preferred:ย 

  • CDL or interest in obtaining oneย 
  • NCCCO crane certification or rigging/lifting experienceย 
  • Working knowledge of mechanical fundamentals and industrial toolsย 
  • Familiarity with substation hazards, LOTO procedures, grounding, and arc-flash boundariesย 
  • Ability to read or willingness to learn to read electrical diagrams, one-lines, and field metering devicesย 
  • Interest in learning transformer testing, oil-processing support, and advanced proceduresย
