Job description

The City of Independence is seeking seasonal Park Maintenance Workers to work under the city's Parks & Recreation Department. The Parks & Recreation Department is committed to excellence in programming, facilities, and service while improving the quality of life within our community.

The primary responsibility of City of Independence Park Maintenance Workers are to perform routine maintenance related work to uphold the beautification standards of the City's exterior campus, parks and green spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain park grounds,
  • Mow and maintain lawns,
  • Trim hedges,
  • Plant flowers,
  • Keep the park(s) clean and tidy,
  • Assist with maintenance and preservation of trees,
  • Planting of trees and shrubs,
  • Preparing park areas for season changes (i.e., fall leaf cleanup, mulching in spring, etc.)
  • Daily cleaning duties which include vacuuming, skimming and brushing pools, cleaning/scrubbing pool decks, cleaning and around pool buildings/locker rooms, emptying trash, moving/restocking supplies.

  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under typical Ohio weather conditions.
