Job description

The MPD Rig Systems Specialist IV serves as the onsite supervisory lead responsible for safe, compliant, and efficient execution of Managed Pressure Drilling operations. This role provides direct oversight of personnel, equipment, and client interface while ensuring adherence to technical standards, QHSE requirements, and contractual obligations. The position is accountable for job delivery, team performance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and supervise all MPD rig site operations including planning, rig-up, operation, maintenance, and rig-down activities

  • Direct and mentor Field Specialists and Engineers, ensuring competency development and performance accountability

  • Act as onsite authority for operational execution, troubleshooting, and decision-making

  • Ensure operations aligned with procedures, well programs, and client requirements

Client Interface & Communication

  • Serve as primary point of contact with operations management, client representatives and third-party services

  • Lead pre-job, daily, and post-job meetings

  • Provide clear operational reporting and escalation communication

Technical & Equipment Oversight

  • Ensure full operational readiness and functionality of all MPD equipment

  • Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities

  • Coordinate with engineering teams for modeling and support

  • Validate equipment certification and mobilization compliance

QHSE & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all QHSE policies, procedures, and regulations

  • Lead safety meetings and incident reporting

  • Enforce compliance with quality systems and procedures

  • Promote a safety-first culture including stop-work authority

Planning, Reporting & Performance Management

  • Oversee job planning, execution strategies, and resource allocation

  • Ensure accurate and timely job documentation and reporting

  • Monitor KPIs including efficiency, NPT, and equipment reliability

  • Manage inventory tracking and logistics coordination

  • Deliver field invoices timely and monitor for accuracy

Continuous Improvement 

  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and quality

  • Support root cause analysis and lessons learned initiatives

  • Contribute to cost control through effective planning and execution

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of field personnel

  • Responsible for coaching, performance feedback, and team development

  • Ensure proper rotations and shift coverage

  • Enforce accountability for safety and compliance

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5-10 years MPD or related drilling experience

  • Previous supervisory or lead role experience

  • Strong technical knowledge of MPD systems

  • Previous offshore experience in MPD or drilling operations

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
