Job description
At Oceaneering, we're seeking a talented Designer II to join our innovative team. In this role, you'll be responsible for generating layout, assembly, and detail drawings for a variety of projects, primarily focused on developing complex power and control systems for underwater electromechanical systems. Your work will support our customers in the US Navy, other US Government Department of Defense agencies, and ADTECH projects. Additionally, we are a leader in offshore oilfield maintenance services, umbilicals, subsea hardware, and tooling. We also use applied technology expertise to serve the defense, material handling, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries.- Required:
- Associate degree in Mechanical Design or a related field, or 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of applied drafting experience, preferably in Marine Design.
- Proficiency with Dassault Systemes SolidWorks solid modeling and design software, with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
- Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated understanding of ASME Y14 drafting standards.
- Desired:
- Working knowledge of U.S. Navy specifications and requirements for Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical drawings is preferred.
- Experience with technical writing, including writing specs, procedures, white papers, and manuals.
- Familiarity with Product Lifetime Management (PLM) software is an asset.
- Formal training in the use of solid modeling software, with a preference for SolidWorks.
- Basic understanding of DSS-SOC and SUBSAFE requirements is desirable.
- Craft mechanical parts & assemblies based on high-level concepts for moderately complex equipment or mechanisms using SolidWorks.
- Independently develop original designs and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure efficient manufacturing, assembly, and integration.
- Validate the technical accuracy and completeness of all modelling and drafting.
- Prepare engineering drawings, layout, and detailed design of mechanical systems using SolidWorks or SolidWorks Electrical.
- Interface with customers via email, phone, or presentations to discuss project requirements and updates.
- Create illustrations for technical mechanical documentation and design intents.
- Support engineering analysis/simulation software by preparing models for export, merging parts, and applying load vectors under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Perform ship checks and site visits as needed.
- Work overtime hours as required to meet project deadlines.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and ethical standards in all aspects of the role.
