The primary responsibility of a Shop Helper is to perform general labor tasks. In this position your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist with disassembly and reassembly of motors, generators, and pumps.
  • Sandblast, steam clean, cleans and prep parts.
  • Operates the cutout saw and put motors, generators, and pumps in the burn out oven.
  • Performs tasks as required for general facility maintenance and upkeep including but not limited to lawn care, general janitorial duties, sweeping, pressure washing and painting.
  • Operate company equipment (i.e.: Forklift, Crane, hand tools etc.) in a safe and efficient manner in the performance of all duties as required.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Comply with all company policies / procedures and perform all job functions in an ethical manner.
  • Complete all required safety training.
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear for all tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area free of hazards as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs all applicable duties in accordance with ISO procedures, if required.
  • Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.

Job Requirements:
  • Must pass all required pre-employment screenings - Background, Physical and Drug screen.
  • Be able to comply with all drug and alcohol policies of Houma Armature Works and/or customer sponsored programs. Subject to random Drug and Alcohol screenings.
  • Be able to operate motor vehicles in compliance with all state and federal requirements, if travel required.
  • Possess valid identification.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends, if required.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training, in-house/offsite.
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification required.
  • Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic/Experienced mechanic knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read, write and follow work instructions.
  • Ability to interface with co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines.
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Additional Job Details
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 0 - 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
