What is an Offshore 14 14?

An Offshore 14 14 job refers to a work schedule where employees spend 14 days working on an offshore site, such as an oil rig or vessel, followed by 14 days off. This rotation helps maintain work-life balance while ensuring continuous operations. Jobs in this schedule can include roles in drilling, maintenance, engineering, and safety. Workers typically stay on-site during their shift and are provided with accommodations and meals.

What skills and qualifications are needed for an Offshore 14 14?

To thrive in an Offshore 14/14 role, you need strong technical skills relevant to offshore operations—such as engineering, mechanical, or drilling experience—supported by certifications like BOSIET, HUET, or TWIC, and a solid record of safety compliance. Familiarity with offshore platforms, safety management systems, and specialized equipment is typically required. Excellent teamwork, resilience, and communication skills help individuals adapt to the unique rotational schedule and work effectively with a diverse crew. These qualifications and personal attributes are crucial to ensure safety, productivity, and smooth operations in the offshore environment on a 14 days on/14 days off rotation.

What should I expect from the work schedule and lifestyle of a 14/14 offshore rotation?

A 14/14 offshore rotation means you will spend 14 consecutive days working at sea, typically on a platform or rig, followed by 14 days off onshore. While on shift, you’ll work long hours—often 12-hour shifts—with provided accommodations, meals, and amenities, all within a highly structured and safety-focused environment. The schedule allows for equal time at home, offering a significant work-life balance, but it also requires adaptability to being away from family and social life for extended periods. Crew members learn to build strong camaraderie with colleagues and efficiently switch between intense work periods and downtime. Many find that this rotation provides an excellent balance for those who value both earning potential and personal time.
