HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

Employees in this position will be performing the tasks needed to create covers and end sheets according to customer specifications. All employees are continually required to maintain the highest degree of work quality as well as follow all applicable safety regulations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Coordinate with customers and other employees to produce cover, endsheet and page art. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customer, sales reps and other employees.
  • Execute art functions from beginning to end, including sketch design, comprehensive proofs, final proofs, and press confirmation. All work must be thoroughly and correctly prepared within production parameters.
  • Complete all paperwork and correspondence involved in all phases of job completion.
  • Ability to understand and accurately follow through on verbal and written instruction.
  • Work backlog efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment at all times.
  • Maintain a positive working environment through professional and friendly behavior with all co-workers, leads, supervisor, and managers.
  • Have a fundamental understanding of yearbook terms and concepts.
  • Present a professional demeanor and wear proper dress attire.
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors and managers.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to use standardized measuring tools.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve potentially complex problems dealing with a variety of variables relating to productions of art. Ability to judge the correct technique with which to complete a task. Employees must have the ability to interpret complex instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of color, design, and draftsmanship is required. Sketching and painting skills are helpful.

Basic understanding of offset lithography and silk-screen printing.

Computer skills: to perform this job successfully, an employee should have a strong working knowledge of the MacOS operating system and must be proficient in the use of the Adobe InDesign software. A basic knowledge of supplemental software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.) is required to assist in accomplishment of assigned duties.

Must be able to work all hours as needed, including overtime and weekends.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The production artist position is an entry position into the art department. Upon completion of the following, the position may transition to a creative artist position (assuming a creative artist position is open within the department):

Must be in the production artist position for a minimum of 1 year. (All aspects of art department production and creative service responsibilities will be experienced during that year.)

Must have a suitably low error rate and suitably high level of job output (as deemed suitable by department management).

Once all parameters of the position are met, the employee may be transitioned to the appropriate pay grade. Final decisions in regard to eligibility of position and to pay level increases, are at the discretion of Varsity Yearbook plant management and determined on an individual employee basis according to plant needs.
