POSITION: Cleaner.
REPORTS TO: Operations Coordinator.
CATEGORY: Part-Time/Non-Exempt/Permanent.
LOCATION: In-Person, Falls Church, Virginia.
PROGRAM: Bailey's Crossroad Community Shelter.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a part-time cleaner to work Saturday and Sunday to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the 52-bed homeless shelter and 18 permanent supportive housing units. This includes daily cleaning of resident areas, common spaces, restrooms, dining areas, and offices, kitchen, as well as supporting meal service cleanups and maintaining inventory of janitorial supplies. The Cleaner plays a critical role in supporting the health, dignity, and well-being of residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors in a facility operating 365 days a year.

FACETS is a non-profit organization that opens doors by helping parents, their children, and individuals who suffer the effects of poverty in Fairfax County. We meet their emergency needs through our wrap around services and community partnerships and help individuals and families experience safe and stable housing after years of uncertainty and instability. We strive to ensure that every person in our community has a place they can call home. Here at FACETS, every team member plays a role in making a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Cleans the facility several times throughout the day, with special attention to high-use areas to maintain hygiene and safety.
  • Assist with deep cleaning tasks on a weekly or monthly basis.
  • Responsible for regularly vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, disinfecting surfaces, and trash removal to maintain cleanliness and safety.
  • Provides basic cleaning of all common areas, including restrooms, entrances, walkways, windows, furniture, fixtures, elevators, stairs, and walls to ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Maintains the parking lot, outdoor areas, dumpster area, and smoking areas keeping them clean and free of trash.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and report any maintenance issues, hazards, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Respond to urgent cleaning needs or spills in a timely and professional manner.
  • Refill cleaning supplies, track inventory needs, and notify supervisor when restocking is required.
  • Follow all shelter policies regarding cleaning chemicals equipment usage and safety procedures.
  • Follow infection control procedures, including proper usage of PPE.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Work an adjusted work schedule, including evenings and weekends as necessary to meet program needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior custodial, housekeeping, or facility maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Must pass criminal and Child Protective Services background checks.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, and performing physical tasks.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, standing, and carrying physical supplies.
  • Must be able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events each year.

Salary Range:
  • Hourly: $18-$20.
