Job description

DESCRIPTION Are you seeking job stability and a position where you can make a difference every day. If you gain satisfaction in finishing a task and doing it well and would like to play a crucial role in keeping the Union County offices running, we invite you to join our Facilities Team as a Custodian. Custodians perform a variety of custodial, maintenance, and repair duties, throughout the County buildings, offices, and grounds, contributing to a clean and welcoming environment for employees and our guests.

This is a full-time, classified position that is on call for extra assignments and overtime. QUALIFICATIONS Completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school diploma or GED); experience in commercial cleaning and maintenance experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the County's vehicle insurance policy. EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Facilities tools and equipment: commonly used Custodian equipment; vacuum cleaner, floor machine, and other standard custodial equipment, motor vehicle.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: Ascends and/or descends stairs,; is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, or air contaminants; is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions; is exposed to possible injury as a result of electrical shock; is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; works second shift, third shift, irregular hours. Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium work

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (1) Cleans assigned area of County facility and grounds as needed (e.g., cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms with paper products and supplies; empties waste baskets and disposes of trash; vacuums, dusts, washes, and sweeps to keep offices, halls, and stairs clean; buffs floors with high-speed buffer, washes windows and baseboards; cleans refrigerators out periodically; (performs set-up/tear-down for events) (2) Properly secures County facilities (unlocks and locks buildings and turns lights off and on, as needed). (3) Gathers and disposes of trash, (4) Vacuums and cleans County vehicles. (5) Maintains required licensures and certification, if any

(6) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions. (7) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (8) Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS (*indicates developed after employment) Knowledge of: *County, Department, and Division goals and objectives; *County, Department, and Division policies and procedures; *personnel rules and regulations; workplace safety practices and procedures; grounds maintenance and repair; custodial practices and procedures. Skill in: cleaning equipment and tools operation. Ability to: carry out instructions in written, oral, or picture form; interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; communicate effectively; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; develop and maintain effective working relationships; resolve complaints; perform heavy manual labor; travel to and gain access to work site; utilize cleaning materials; develop and maintain effective working relationships; perform job safely.
