Job description

  • GENERAL SUMMARY

  • The Occupational Therapist delivers occupational therapy services in accordance with AOTA’s standards and policies; the nature and scope of occupational therapy services must be in accordance with laws and regulations. Reports to department leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assures continued competency by establishing, maintaining, and updating professional performance, knowledge, and skills.

  • Provides direction for certified occupational therapy assistant in a collaborative manner as defined by official AOTA documents and in accordance with laws and regulations.

  • Maintains current knowledge of legislative, political, social, cultural, and reimbursement issues that affect patients and the practice of occupational therapy.

  • Systematically assesses the efficiency and effectiveness of occupational therapy services and designs and implements processes to support quality service delivery.

  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current state licensure as an occupational therapist. New graduates must obtain Virginia state licensure within 90 days of employment as an Occupational Therapist.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy treatment and modalities.

  • Knowledge and experience in the administration of a variety of assessment tools, treatment plans and equipment.

  • Ability to meet on call requirements of department.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
