General Summary
Odessa College is searching for a Part Time Safety Instructor. This position provides training in safety performance and other courses requested by the community. The instructors administer tests and evaluations to class participants to ensure knowledge is gained during the class. They give input based on experience and knowledge to help maintain and grow the course material. Training can include: DOT, Safeland, H2S, Medic First Aid, etc.
Specific Position Duties
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of course content
  • Creates and maintains an orderly class
  • Set up & clean up of class room for delivery of various courses
  • Stays current and knowledgeable of the operation of the equipment required for the course
  • Responds to questions as they arise during the class and seeks answers if unsure of the correct response
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures (ie. dress code, arriving to work on time, etc.)
  • Starting and finishing courses on the scheduled times
  • Assist those that have learning disabilities (ie. verbal, reading, etc.)
  • Document evaluations when required
  • Flexibility in delivering courses off-site
  • Provide input for courses when asked
  • Flexibility in learning new courses when required
  • Ensure all required forms are properly filled out

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent OR Bachelor's degree in occupational health, safety management, or related field.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of practical safety experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications such as OSHA, NEBOSH, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a safety training role
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and in specific industry such as construction or manufacturing
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification
  • Experience in safety training, risk assessment, or a related field, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or a similar industry.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management practices, and adult learning principles.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train audiences from entry-level employees to management.
  • Ability to develop engaging training materials and deliver effective safety presentations.
  • Proficiency in safety management software, Microsoft Office, and learning management systems.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
