OB/GYN Hospitalist - Academic Role

Overview:
Our organization is seeking a dedicated OB/GYN Hospitalist physician who is passionate about resident and fellow education to join our esteemed Department of OB/GYN. Clinical Responsibilities:
The selected physician will serve as the attending physician and/or an independent provider, covering various areas including Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Obstetric Emergency Department, gynecology consultations, and urgent/emergent gynecological procedures.

Our clinical schedules are designed to be flexible, with a focus on night coverage as needed.

About the OB/GYN Department:

Our facility is a teaching hospital situated in the vibrant center of Denver. With a capacity of 525 beds, we hold a Trauma Level 1 designation and feature a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The OB/GYN department delivers comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care through a collaborative service model, working alongside OB/GYN physicians, subspecialists, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs), and Family Medicine practitioners.

We attend to over 4,000 births annually, accounting for nearly one-third of all deliveries in Denver. Our GYN service performs more than 1,300 surgical procedures each year, catering to a diverse patient demographic, predominantly Hispanic/Latina, and accommodating over 23 languages spoken by our patients.

Schedule and Clinical Duties:

A full-time physician will typically have a monthly schedule comprising 12-14 clinical shifts, with each shift lasting either 10 hours (7 AM - 5 PM) or 14 hours (5 PM - 7 AM). The shifts will include a combination of day and night coverage, with a particular emphasis on night shifts.

Scheduling can be tailored to individual preferences, allowing for options such as 24-hour shifts or flexible arrangements, including three inpatient night shifts weekly or a mix of two night shifts and one daytime weekend shift.

This physician will collaborate with the on-call OB/GYN attending to manage concurrent deliveries, handle obstetrical emergencies, and provide patient care. Responsibilities will include overseeing labor and delivery, supervising resident physicians, CNMs, Family Medicine providers, medical students, and other learners, as well as delivering hands-on clinical care in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Gynecology, and the Obstetrical ED. The role is set in a dynamic, acute care environment, where teamwork is essential, supported by another OB/GYN attending physician. A passion for direct patient interaction and collaboration with residents and learners is crucial, as is a commitment to the hospital's mission of delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.

Academic Affiliation and Medical Education:

Our facility serves as one of three clinical sites for the competitive University of Colorado OB/GYN residency program, training nine residents annually. Additionally, we are a clinical site for various medical programs, including those from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and emergency medical services.

We maintain a formal affiliation with the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where all faculty hold full-time academic appointments. Beyond resident and medical student training, our department has recently initiated a new OB/GYN hospitalist fellowship, with the first fellow expected to begin in the summer of 2025.

This position includes a faculty appointment through the University of Colorado School of Medicine, presenting significant leadership opportunities, especially with the newly established hospitalist fellowship. The Residency Program also offers additional avenues for involvement in medical education.

Qualifications:

• MD/DO degree from an accredited medical institution
• Successful completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency program
• Board Certified or Board Eligible (certification required within three years) by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
• Eligibility for licensure in Colorado
• Eligibility for privileges at our medical center
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in an inclusive environment
