Job description

What you'll do

Atย Scout Motors, youย don'tย just design vehicles- you shape the future of the road. Our Engineering team is where bold ideas meet rigorous execution, building machines that are as durable and capable as the people who drive them.ย You'llย work shoulder-to-shoulder with brilliant minds across disciplines, turning complex challenges into elegant, scalable solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and user experience. This is a place where your fingerprints are found on metal - where what you design gets built, driven, and remembered. Ifย you'reย hungry to engineer something that matters, Scout Motors is where that ambition finds its highest gear.ย

Your engineering ingenuity, wonder & magic in defining and validating OBD test concepts will be instrumental in shaping the perception of Scout as a brand, as well as gaining peer admiration in the automotive industry

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Define and maintainย testable OBD requirementsย aligned with regulatory needs and system-level diagnostic concepts for Scout's software-defined vehicle architectureย
  • Translate OBD system requirements intoย clear validation criteria, test cases, and acceptance conditions, ensuring completeness and consistencyย
  • Develop and structureย test specifications for OBD monitors, readiness behavior, MIL activation, DTC setting/clearing logic, and fault handlingย
  • Ensure fullย traceability from OBD requirements to verification activities, including linking to test cases, execution results, and release evidenceย
  • Collaborate closely withย HIL engineers, validation teams, calibration engineers, and software developersย toย align onย test coverage and execution strategiesย
  • Support the development and automation ofย HIL, SIL, and vehicle-level test scenarios, including fault injection, edge cases, and regulatory drive cyclesย
  • Review and validate diagnostic implementations against defined requirements, ensuring correct monitor execution and expected system behavior under all operating conditionsย
  • Analyze test results, diagnostic traces, and measurement data to identifyย gaps, inconsistencies, or non-compliances, and drive structured issue resolutionย
  • Ensure that OBD validation coversย nominal operation, edge conditions, degraded modes, and recovery behaviorย
  • Support regulatory readiness by contributing toย validation reports, compliance documentation, and readiness assessmentsย
  • Coordinate activities throughout prototype and serial development, including test planning, execution tracking, and reportingย
  • Work with systems and architecture teams to ensure OBD requirements areย designed for testability and scalable validation within the SDV frameworkย
  • Continuously improveย test methods, validation strategies, and requirement qualityย to enhance efficiency and robustnessย
  • Be involved in other related tasks / activities as requiredย

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location inย Novi, Michigan.ย
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.ย
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the companyย from time to time.
What you'll bringย

  • Provenย experience definingย testable OBD requirements, including monitor conditions, fault detection logic, readiness behavior, and diagnostic verification criteriaย ย
  • Strongย understanding ofย OBDII regulations, diagnostic monitor execution, DTC behavior, readiness states, and emission-related validation expectationsย ย
  • Experienceย translating system and regulatory requirements intoย clear validation and test specificationsย for MIL, readiness, and diagnostic completenessย ย
  • Hands-on experience with validation environments such asย HIL, SIL, MIL, and vehicle testing, including test case development and automationย ย
  • Proficiencyย with tools such asย MATLAB/Simulink, ETAS INCA,ย CANoe/CANalyzer,ย CANape, and data analysis toolsย ย
  • Familiarityย withย UDS diagnostics, DTC handling,ย freezeย frames, and diagnostic communication over CAN/Ethernetย ย
  • Experienceย with requirements and traceability tools such asย Jama, DOORS, orย Polarion, including linking requirements to test cases and validation resultsย ย
  • Strongย analytical and debugging skills with the ability to interpret measurement data, logs (MDF/BLF), and diagnostic tracesย ย
  • Abilityย to read and understand Simulink models, control logic, and diagnostic specificationsย ย
  • Strongย interpersonal skills including ownership, structured problem solving, communication, and ability to work in a cross-functional and global environmentย ย
