What is an Ob Gyn assistant?

Ob Gyn Assistants are healthcare professionals who support obstetricians and gynecologists in providing care to women, particularly related to reproductive health, pregnancy, and childbirth. Their duties can include preparing exam rooms, assisting during medical procedures, taking patient histories, scheduling appointments, and providing patient education. Ob Gyn Assistants may also handle administrative tasks and help ensure that the clinic or practice runs smoothly. They play a vital role in helping patients feel comfortable and informed during their visits. Training requirements can vary, but many have backgrounds as medical assistants or similar healthcare roles.

What are the daily responsibilities of an Ob Gyn assistant?

An Ob Gyn Assistant typically handles a mix of clinical and administrative tasks, such as preparing exam rooms, taking patient histories and vital signs, assisting with procedures, and ensuring that medical instruments are sterilized and ready for use. They often act as a liaison between patients and physicians, helping to explain procedures and provide reassurance. Their support is crucial for maintaining efficient workflow and a positive patient experience in busy obstetrics and gynecology practices.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an Ob Gyn assistant?

To thrive as an Ob Gyn Assistant, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, women's health procedures, and basic clinical skills, often supported by a medical assistant certificate or associate's degree. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, patient scheduling software, and routine laboratory equipment is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide compassionate care help you excel in this patient-facing role. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring accurate clinical support, smooth office operations, and a positive patient experience in obstetrics and gynecology settings.

OB/GYN Physician - Early Career

Launch Your Career Here. Enhance Your Skills. Enjoy Your Community.

As women's health services expand throughout the Mid-Valley, our organization is looking to grow its OB/GYN team with dedicated physicians like you to address the needs of the communities we serve.

Early Career Development

Establish a solid foundation for a fulfilling career in OB/GYN. Collaborate with seasoned physician mentors, gain exposure to a comprehensive range of obstetric and gynecologic care, and refine your skills in a supportive environment that fosters your growth, confidence, and long-term success.

Enhance More Than Just Your Practice

At our organization, you will benefit from the resources of a regional medical center, a collaborative physician culture, and the chance to reside in one of the most sought-after regions in the Pacific Northwest. Join a well-established OB/GYN team where physicians receive the support they need to advance professionally, the independence to make a significant impact, and the opportunity to enjoy a desirable lifestyle.

Experience Life in the Willamette Valley

Salem provides an outstanding lifestyle for physicians and their families. As Oregon's capital, it combines the advantages of a bustling metropolitan area with the convenience, affordability, and accessibility of a mid-sized community.

Within a short distance from Salem, you can explore:

  • Award-winning wine country in the Willamette Valley
  • Silver Falls State Park and the renowned Trail of Ten Falls
  • Oregon's picturesque coastline, just about 75 minutes away
  • World-class opportunities for hiking, cycling, kayaking, skiing, and other outdoor activities
  • Highly regarded educational institutions and family-friendly neighborhoods
  • A vibrant arts, dining, and cultural scene
  • Convenient access to Portland and Portland International Airport
  • A significantly lower cost of living compared to many major West Coast physician recruitment markets

Whether you prefer a spacious property in wine country, a family home in South Salem, or a quaint small-town lifestyle with a short commute, the Mid-Valley offers a variety of housing options and a quality of life that continues to attract physicians nationwide.

Practice with the Support You Deserve

At our organization, physicians benefit from:

  • An established hospital-based OB/GYN practice integrated with Salem Hospital
  • A collaborative team of OB/GYN physicians, midwives, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, and support staff
  • Modern Labor & Delivery facilities located just steps from the clinic
  • Onsite anesthesiology and surgical services
  • Access to advanced technology and minimally invasive surgical platforms
  • A robust clinical infrastructure that allows physicians to concentrate on patient care rather than administrative tasks
  • A culture that emphasizes teamwork, mentorship, and ongoing professional development

With the clinic, Labor & Delivery unit, surgical services, and supporting specialists all situated on the Salem Hospital campus, physicians enjoy a highly interconnected practice environment designed to promote excellent patient care and professional fulfillment.

Comprehensive Rewards Package

Our organization offers a thorough benefits package that prioritizes your mental and physical well-being, financial security, family commitments, and professional advancement.

  • Base Salary: $423,705
  • CME Allowance: $4,000 annually
  • CME Time: 40 hours
  • PTO: 200 hours annually
  • Comprehensive benefits package valued at approximately: 20% of compensation
  • Retirement and wellness benefits

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical institution.
  • Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Oregon. Current DEA certification.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience is preferred; exceptional new graduates will be considered.
  • Experience managing both routine and high-risk obstetric patients and performing common gynecologic procedures.

  • Deliver babies in a modern Labor & Delivery unit located just steps from the clinic, supported by anesthesiology and nursing staff.
