$20/hr. and a Free YMCA Membership 

5 Hours per Week 9am-12pm every other Saturday 


The Youth & Government Advisor is responsible for the successful guidance and development of the NYS Youth & 

Government program in Rochester. Assisting in the coordination and growth of the program. Working with local 

program volunteers, identifying and leading the program's leadership students to prepare the group for the State 

Conference, and ensuring program quality are key to this role. This position plays a key role in delivering consistent, 

high-quality experiences that aligns with the YMCA's mission and values.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepare students for presentation at the State Conference held in Albany during late March/early 

April. This includes running bi-monthly meetings, holding regular steering and sub-committee 

meetings to plan the curriculum with leadership students, and providing them with tools for 

success.

Maintain a safe environment for all students in the program

Mentor teens and develop their leadership skills and enthusiasm for civic engagement 

Communicate with Association Director regarding program information and curriculum

Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of department operations and the YMCA mission.



Requirements


Candidate must be at least 21 years of age and possess an associate degree or equivalent work experience.

A minimum of two years' experience working with teens. 

Basic computer skills are essential. 

Prior experience working in a high volume, member-focused environment is preferred and must have the 

ability to multi-task. 

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust with diverse youth populations 

Must relate well to the public, possess an outgoing, pleasant personal manner and present a neat 

appearance, be detailed oriented and self-motivated. 

This position requires a mature and effective individual who must be flexible and able to adapt to highpressure periods. 

Demonstrated commitment to the YMCA's mission, values, and youth development philosophy 

Possess CPR/AED Certifications or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. 

Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed and have the ability to travel.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to stand or sit for the duration of the shift

Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally

Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds occasionally

Must be able to travel to meetings and conferences
