Overview
TRC is seeking Environmental Scientists/Technicians to join our New York, NY office. This position would be working within our Safety and Industrial Hygiene (SIH) Sector.
The position would start as temporary, with up to 40 hours per week. Candidates will receive necessary training, including classroom and hands-on training, paid for by TRC. The selected candidate may provide support for lead, asbestos, mold, Legionella, industrial hygiene and various other services.
Responsibilities
  • Work effectively at project sites, independently, with a team, or under direct supervision, as the needs require.
  • Capture field data/information/photographs accurately meeting high expectation of quality.
  • Be responsible for, operating and maintaining instruments such as, air sampling pumps, XRFs, and other scientific equipment.
  • Maintain daily logs of activities related to project work.
  • Deliver all field logs, data, samples and/or equipment to and from various project sites, laboratories, and office locations.
  • This position requires long-term standing, walking, and perhaps repetitive motions.
  • Lift and carry 20 pounds regularly. May require lifting up to 60 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to carry and climb ladders and being able to use hand and power tools.
  • Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment, which may include tight fitting respirators.
  • Communicate with managers and field team regarding project status and requirements.
  • Travel throughout all five boroughs of New York City. Potential travel outside of New York City as needed.
  • Participate in TRC's health and safety program, conduct daily pre-job tailgate meetings and/or job safety assessments.

Qualifications
    • Minimum education of a high school diploma is required; Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety is preferred
    • Must be able to learn, and demonstrate competency in the use of new technologies, and applications.
    • Must be able to adapt to alternate work shifts, including overnight or weekend shifts when needed.
    • Must be a reliable team player, able to communicate with project management team, and follow instructions.
    • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to interact respectfully and gain trust with residents and other stakeholders, to meet project objectives and maintain confidentiality.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen and motor vehicle records check.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Consideration will be granted to candidates with advanced college degrees, with a preference to scientific disciplines such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering.
    • Experience using the Viken Pb200i.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
    • Strong preference for candidates possessing any of the following certifications:
        • Dust Wipe Sampling Technician
        • US EPA Lead Inspector
        • US EPA Risk Assessor
        • NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector
        • NYSDOL Asbestos Monitor
        • Asbestos Investigator
        • NYSDOL Mold Assessor
      • Experience with water quality field measurements (e.g. pH, chlorine) and collection of water samples for various biological and chemical laboratory analyses.
    • Ability to read construction plans.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
