POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition Informatics is responsible for maintaining clinical nutrition documentation templates and data collection/ reporting within best practice standards for healthcare informatics / health information technology and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics standard of care. Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition Informatics maintains department specific software systems, ensuring software updates are implemented no less than once per calendar year. This position is responsible for maintaining implementation timeline of software system upgrades, staff training and education on the software systems, and ensuring accuracy of databases. Database changes involving patient meals are communicated to Managers, Supervisors, and Clinical Dietitians prior to implementing the changes.
Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition Informatics works as a member of the clinical dietitian team in providing patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. This position applies the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing evidence-based nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluating the patient's progress. Nutrition recommendations are communicated to other members of the care team thru effective verbal and written communication, and documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
The Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition Informatics is able to perform all job duties independently, maintain professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
Position completes special projects, as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Master's Degree in Nutrition, or related healthcare field.
- Specialty Certification (CNSC, CDCES, CNO, etc.) may be considered in place of Master's Degree.
Experience:
- Prior experience in clinical dietetics preferred.
- Prefer experience with CBORD software and Meditech Electronic Health Record.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Must be proficient with computer systems and handheld electronic devices including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Apple iOS, Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), iPad, and applications thru App Store or Google Play.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for inpatients and outpatients.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates the nutritional care for patients in consultation with the patient, family, nursing, and medical staff according to established standards of care.
- Provides both inpatient and outpatient nutrition counseling to patients and/or families in individual and/or group sessions.
- Performs nutrition assessments as required, and enters documentation of nutrition therapy in patient's electronic medical record.
- Provides nutritional consultation to medical staff as requested regarding appropriate diet orders, caloric prescriptions, parenteral and enteral nutrition, or nutrition supplements.
- Contributes to the development of master menu cycles for patient meal service.
- Serves as educator or preceptor for students and/or interns as required.
- Participates in required professional committees, department meetings, and in-service education programs.
- Plans and/or conducts in-service education programs for department or other hospital staff as required.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all records and information received in the course of the job and adhere to policies outlined by H.I.P.A.A. standards.
- Maintains the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of nutrition data.
- Evaluates documentation templates on an ongoing basis to ensure ability to retrieve data for reporting and evaluation of services.
- Ensures the electronic Nutrition Care Process (NCP) is updated within documentation templates.
- Ensures nutritional accuracy of data within department specific software system.
- Stays abreast of new technology and standards of care, and implements into clinical practice as appropriate.
- Maintains Department Specific Software Programs.
- Maintains the integrity and accuracy of the information in the data software system assuring that all product data, recipes, allergens, and nutritional analysis information is accurate and current at all times.
- Removes old/ discontinued items as to keep the database to maintain the integrity of the database.
- Oversees department specific software training for all supervisors and staff Provides education, as needed, to team members.
- Coordinates system upgrades, at least once per calendar year, with software vendor and Information Services. Tests new upgrades and provides training to staff.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for resolving system issues for all users on staff and then to software vendor. Assists in troubleshooting system issues.
- Contributes to the development, testing, and roll out of new system implementation.
- Controls and grants access to the systems within parameters of preset user access groups.
- Maintains established Medical Center and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement, safety, infection, and environment control.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
