Position Title: Full-Time Nutrition Services Employee
Department: Nutrition Services
Reports To: Nutrition Services Manager / Cafeteria Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Status: Full-Time
Position Summary
Buena Vista City Public Schools is seeking a dependable and hardworking full-time Nutrition Services Employee to assist with the preparation, serving, and clean-up of meals for students and staff. This position supports the school nutrition program by helping provide healthy, safe, and appealing meals in a clean and welcoming cafeteria environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The employee will:
  • Assist with food preparation, cooking, serving, and portioning meals according to established guidelines.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, serving areas, dining areas, and storage areas.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, trays, pots, pans, and food preparation equipment.
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food and supplies.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and properly.
  • Serve students and staff in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Follow meal pattern requirements and portion control procedures.
  • Assist with cashiering or meal counting, if assigned.
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or supply needs to the cafeteria manager.
  • Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff, school staff, students, and administrators.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in food service, school nutrition, or cafeteria work preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work well with students, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Must meet all background check and employment requirements of Buena Vista City Public Schools.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 40 pounds.
  • Bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Work in a kitchen environment with heat, cold, noise, and cleaning supplies.
  • Safely operate food service equipment.

Work Schedule
