Job description

SUMMARY
The Nurse Manager plans and organizes nursing care for residents of Mennonite Community Homes of Ohio. This role directly and indirectly supervises the Nursing Department staff. Major functions include providing leadership to meet program goals, managing smooth transitions of elders moving in and out of the facility, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Direct daily operations of the neighborhood, including reviewing 24-hour care provided to elders.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Provide leadership and support for the resident-centered care model.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure quality of care by auditing skin issues, falls, restraints, care plans, infection control, and more. Maintain reports and present findings to the Quality Assurance Process Improvement Committee.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Utilize reports in PCC or other electronic medical record systems; teach and monitor licensed nurses in software use.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Make regular rounds to visit acutely or terminally ill residents, newly admitted or transferred residents, and assist Charge Nurses in assessing resident needs.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย Assist with Assisted Living Waiver programs, including all reviews.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Initiate, direct, and supervise staff in delivering Restorative Nursing Programs.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Support licensed nursing staff in meeting resident needs, including emergencies, admissions, discharges, and daily care.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, standards of practice, quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control, and regulatory requirements.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Maintain knowledge of Ohio Department of Health laws and regulations; serve as a key contact during ODH surveys.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Assist with admission, placement, and transfer of residents to appropriate care levels.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises Nursing Staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, performance appraisal, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems according to organizational policies and laws.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Licensed nurse in the State of Ohio.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and at least one year experience as a competent nurse practitioner in a supervisory management role. Basic computer skills required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to write speeches and articles in prescribed style. Able to effectively present information to management, public groups, and boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Basic algebra and geometry concepts apply.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and manage concrete variables where limited standards exist. Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
