Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. Job Overview

At Wawanesa, we're committed to delivering a thoughtful, supportive claims experience when our members need us most. We're looking for a Claims Adjuster 1 / Recovery Care Specialist 1 - Accident Benefits to join our team and help injured members navigate low to moderate complexity accident benefits claims with care, empathy, and sound judgment.

In this role, you'll proactively investigate claims, apply policy coverages, collaborate with internal and external partners, and support early, appropriate, and sustainable claim outcomes while meeting service, regulatory, and financial expectations.

We are hiring for 10 Level 1 Claims Adjusters to join our Accident Benefits team on November 5, 2026. Deadline to apply is Friday, September 25, 2026.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide empathetic guidance and support to injured members throughout the claims process, delivering an exceptional member experience.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with injured members and stakeholders through telephone, digital, and written correspondence, ensuring inquiries are addressed promptly.
  • Collaborate with treatment providers, service vendors, and other stakeholders to help ensure members receive appropriate support and services throughout their recovery.
  • Set and update claim and expense reserves in a timely manner based on available information and established guidelines.
  • Support litigated claims by instructing and directing external counsel, participating in dispute resolution processes, and contributing to resolution strategy within assigned authority.
  • Proactively identify claim developments, determine next steps, and escalate matters appropriately when required.
  • Maintain detailed, analytical, and timely file documentation that reflects claim strategy, rationale, and next steps.
  • Stay current with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, dispute processes, and industry trends related to accident benefits.
  • Manage priority of payment investigations, WSIB/WCB considerations, loss transfer matters, litigation processes, and related requirements within assigned authority or with escalation as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications
  • Previous claims adjusting or relevant insurance experience preferred; experience with accident benefits, bodily injury, disability, rehabilitation-related claims, or medical disciplines such as kinesiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, or nursing is considered an asset.
  • Foundational understanding of accident benefits, policy interpretation, claims handling practices, fraud mitigation, entitlement assessment, and analysis within policy parameters.
  • Strong organizational, time management, desk management, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen compassionately, gather required information, make sound and timely decisions, and work collaboratively with adaptability, resilience, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Progress toward the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is considered an asset.
  • Valid adjusting license, where required by provincial legislation, or the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain required licensing.
